I wasn't aware that Rhino had ever put Alan down. As posted yesterday I always thought he recognised he could never replace Alan in terms of the authenticity of the Quo sound. Oh well, if that is true, then all the more reason for Alan to stand up for himself. Its even more disappointing to know.
I wouldn't worry Catlady, I don't think deepthroat's joke about Rhino is in relation to him putting Alan down. But I was going to say something similar to rxandy also. Such as isn't Sting a bass player? (I know he's a top song writer too.) ie: the bass player is an equally important band member. In support of the OP, I'm sure most of us have seen the 1974 interview from Finish TV where Alan does most of the talking. I didn't see that as Alan bigging himself up but more that the others were not comfortable giving interviews and would rather joke about. And Alan was taking responsibility to put the band over in a credible light. I've always thought this was one reason Quo were never taken seriously in the music press. They hated the pretensions of the bigger bands and refused to play that game. And hence they were and still remain a 'joke band' in the eyes of many.
