Wishing Baz all the best - from Spuds facebook
A personal message from our Baz...
Hi All,
Firstly apologies for my absence, I have really missed not being able to be part of this summer’s gigs and not being able to see all my lovely friends.
It hasn't been the right time to make any official announcements as I was unsure as to my future was likely to be.
However as some of you are aware in July I was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. I always have been really healthy and always felt really great so was a massive, massive shock.
This news was compounded by the type of cancer it is and if it was treatable. If it had spread there would be no cure. After 2 months of tests the good news is that it looks as if it is contained and I am now on 9 weeks chemo followed by major surgery possibly early January then recovery time and then a further 9 weeks of chemo so it if all goes to plan it is my wish to return to JCQ and Predatür sometime next year.
I wish to thank everyone who has been so kind, compassionate and supportive and the hundreds of messages I have received. I am always truly humbled by people’s humanity and we are all one Quo family.
I especially want to thank my awesome buddy and writing partner of some 30 odd years Mick Hughes for managing to keep JCQ gigging and to the mighty Rick Abbs for stepping in out of the blue and taking the pressure off what was a truly massive situation for us all and I personally and publicly want to say that if Rick hadn't been prepared to step in, my whole situation would have been compounded and the band would have had to pull out of gigs so thanks to Rick's generosity JCQ is in excellent hands and I can just concentrate on my long path to recovery.
Rick is a really great player and I totally support him in everything he is doing for the band. I would ask you to give him an extra big cheer from me.
Hope that this gives clear understanding as to our situation and I wish everyone all the best for the future.
See you on the road
Baz
