Hi all.
I have always been an avid reader of the various message boards, and although I never really joined in the mix as a regular commentator, I now feel the need to express some of the mixed emotions I'm now experiencing.
Firsty, I would like to thank Rick for the the amount of enjoyment that he has given me over the last four decades and I also send him my wishes of good health and happiness for him and his family in the future.
This latest news has certainly marked the end of an era. But I find it quite insulting as a fan, that the band and the management are carrying on as if it's not such a big deal. Rick parfitt is a Rock legend who just oozes presence and carisma. At a Current Quo gig I think it would be about ten songs into the show before I looked around and spotted the other three members. This is because I couldn't take my eyes of Rossi and Parfitt. They just had that Rock star aura. That's not a dig at the others because I have great respect for them as musicians, but I kind bought into that image of the two mates playing their telecasters, each with their unique sound, but together and with an almost telepathic bond between them, fronting the band. Now at the Frantic Four gigs it was a little bit different because I was looking at four Rock stars. Four mates who'd started out together and made it together. They all just had that presence. I must be a bit of a Rock n Roll romantic because I just loved that.
I do relise that the music business is very fickle and it's all about selling, publicity and putting a spin on certain situations. Over the years Quo have done every publicity stunt in the book. Some good, some bad, mostly bad, but now I'm left feeling a bit naive and silly because I really did think that deep down when it mattered, like now, that Quo were a bit more real, a bit more authentic. I really though that friendship, loyalty and respect would win through. I honestly thought that the band and the management would have been of the opinion that without Rick you haven't really got Quo. I don't think the band or the management have shown much respect or dignity in the way they are carrying on. I watched the Hyde Park gig and I thought Rossi would have acknowledged Rick in some way when chatting to the crowd. He never. I've just seen the new poster for the LNOTE tour. Not really new just a cheap airbrush job. Quite sickening.
Anyway. The LNOTE tour will go ahead. It may seem like a big deal now but in the history of Quo it will be just a blip. In five, ten, fifty years time, when people look back over Musical history, both Quo and Rick will be remembered for their many highlights.
Earlier today I said to a friend "It's very sad, I've done my last Status Quo gig". They replied "So have Status Quo because without Rick it will never be Status Quo." I liked that.
Yacky Dah Rick. X
