quocupsncafe.proboards.com/thread/4886/why-matter?page=1&scrollTo=52340Interesting topic on C&C I can sum up my take on this quite succinctly. You don't stop being a fan. I don't suddenly stop liking the classic stuff just because of Bula Quo. The reason I, and many other still 'moan after 40 years' is that this band decided to coast along for a steady income, producing mediocre, middle of the road plodders while milking the hits on tour, ad infinitum. They blew the chance to really take their music to the next level, to air the album 'deep cuts' live, to mix up the set for the fans, to release a few FF tracks on an EP etc etc. That's why we cared so much, because we knew what this band could do. Now it's too late, so I guess it doesn't matter anymore.

Pretty much.
Rossi's Quo have had their moments and a lot of fans really thought they turned a corner between 2002 and 2005. However, once TPAOY video came out, that was all put to bed and they slowly reverted back to type ever since.
I miss the buzz of the gigs and the great gigs Rossi's Quo used to put on. Incredible memories. I miss the FF and the experience and awesome feeling of seeing them and, I'll always resent it took until 2013 to get them back together

I've been a fan for over 38 years. You don't just put that aside, simple as that.

In truth it doesn't matter at all. But that can be said about all music and entertainment.
So only discuss things you agree with. Don't have an opinion on things you don't.... So refreshing.
I have advice for those who don't like criticism or discussion. Don't read message boards where people have freedom of speech. How can someone discuss not discussing things they disagree with, oxymoronic I think. He or she should move on because apparently it doesn't matter.
I have not been happy with Leeds Utd most of my life. I don't walk away. I keep hoping things will improve. It's the same with Status Quo.

It's the same as sports teams. If your team fails to field the best they can, or even if they do and still lose, fans have the right to complain as much as they like. Quo are failing to 'field' the best they can, in both keeping Rick out of the equation (for now), and/or touring as the FF.

No it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things but that doesn't stop fans of the 70s music feeling frustrated at what happened over the last 30 or 35 years.
Francis can't understand this love of the 70s lineup and their output, at least that is what he'd like us to believe. I wonder how he would have felt if the Everly Brothers had decided to change direction and turned into a punk or metal outfit...

The FF reunions in themselves justified reasons for 40 yrs 'moaning' because despite age and health handicaps which took away some of the original visual raw energy of an FF gig, they still illustrated that raw instinct and spontaneous understanding is a stark modern day alternative to watered down, over sanitised, and over rehearsed onstage light entertainment sameyness.
An alternative, that could have been available much earlier - had the will and motivation to make it happen been there sooner.
A second reason to moan is that, despite an increasingly cheesy celebrity type public image, the post 86 band developed a vast back catalogue with plenty of very good recorded music of their own over 30 yrs - but which they unfortunately and frustratingly chose to waste at the expense of far too much copying and re-constituting of old hits into a parody karaoke act.
Does any of it matter in the grand scheme of things? Of course it doesn't. But then on a SQ mb what are you supposed to discuss? It can't all be light and fluffy unfortunately

...the only thing that's "light and fluffy" is Francis.

It's a bit like saying does anything matter? Why does life matter? Music is an incredibly emotional thing to some, whether it's emotions of excitement, sadness, love, sex etc. To others it's just a toe tapping 'ditty' and nothing more.

It's also the argument of someone who can't debate. Shutting down debate so that only 'their' view exists. I blame the band if their last 3 releases hadn't been so poor, they would give fans a positive argument to put forward.

...or put another way....
..what matters to you about where Quo are?
For me there's 3 things 1. Frustration & disappointment - knowing they could be 1000% better and more enjoyable than they currently are 2. Sadness. Sadness at the treatment of Rick, sadness that all Francis cares about is money 3. Quo's legacy / place in rock history. Sad/frustrated this matters not to Francis. Matters to me. The way the band are promoted often makes me cringe.
All of those things matter to me. It's all very well saying "nobody forces you to go / buy" etc etc....but that doesn't stop me caring. All of us on here *seriously* love the bands best music....for francis to say he'd have rather have been doing something else all these years....feels disheartening.
So in the grand scheme of things...it does matter....matters to those of us whose feelings have been effected to some extent by the goings on

Music is an incredibly emotional thing to some, whether it's emotions of excitement, sadness, love, sex etc. To others it's just a toe tapping 'ditty' and nothing more. That's what music is to me, a very emotional and powerful thing and that has always been the case with especially Quo and especially the FF period of Quo. It's sad things are all ending this way... but I could never just leave it behind as if nothing had ever happened. Quo is entwined in my life in many ways, not only did I grow up with it, it took me through many of the most difficult periods in my life. That has left traces and memories that can never be completely erased. I have absolutely wonderful memories connected to Quo. And I can't like the direction Francis has taken the band in. But that doesn't mean I can just forget everything ever happened. The music from them that I love I will always love. I have more reasons to be grateful to them that they have been in my life then I can count.
