Francis wants us to be believe the second reunion tour was well down.
I think firstly it has to be remembered the tour included dates across Europe. Where attendances were lower than many expected but partly due to them playing the wrong venues. Larger than any line up would sell well in. Now to the UK. Manchester, Glasgow and Wolverhampton all sold out or were close to. Hammersmith sold out for two nights and the third sold ok. But it was a Monday. They only played two the year before. So they pulled a similar size crowd to what they would at the 02. Dublin sold more than Wembley.
So is it true business down ?

Of course it wasn't down and wouldn't be if repeated. It just doesn't fit his agenda for total control of the band and their output.
In my experience, people who harp on about being honest (as he does from time to time) are often trying to hide the fact that they are dishonest.

The FF sold out Dublin. The current line up of the band haven't even sold a block of seats yet and the gig is in 6 or 7 weeks
Francis is not honest!

The 2013 was sort of advertized along the lines of 'The Last Time Ever' so when they decided to have another go a degree of 'they're at it again with another EOTR' set in.Bit like the lyrics to Boring Song. This is the end This is the end This is the end Another end Another end Another end Oh not again No not again Please not again 2013 had to happen because Hello Quo was a dead duck without the original band.Once they had played together for the film the dye was cast, fan pressure etc..2014 was back to the old dosh making machine again.

I doubt fan pressue had much to do with either reunion. Rossi doesn't seem to care what FF or even CQ fans want.

The man is trying to convince himself as much as he is others.
Delusional and a bit embarrassing.
How much longer before Rossi and friends are touring old people's homes and children's parties?

I think Francis knows he's chasing diminishing returns for CQ as a headline act, and that's the reason for last of the electrics . its not about finding it physically too hard. "business is down"
He will not fail to see the difference at Dublin
But if he can get the occasional prestige appearance like Hyde park, he'll be more than happy
I understand him regretting the reunion. What I dont get is him doing it the second time

What I dont get is him doing it the second time I could probably think up a dozen reasons why he did the second one but they'd all be complete guesses. One thing I'm pretty sure of is that no one but him will ever know what really goes on inside his head.

Deep down I reckon it hurts him that the reunion was so well received by the fans and press alike because he knows that's what people really wanted all along. It's just a reaction to that ,the things he says now ,it's his way of dealing with it. He was genuinely taken by surprise the emotions from the fans and just can't handle the fact that the last 30 years have been a lie Cheers

I think that some of the guesses many of us ave might be pretty good ones... just look at the way he's been behaving.... must have been a bitter pill to swallow that a big goup of quofans didn't luke the new directions he has taken... he's certainly behaving like a bitter grumpy old bastard and must hate ff fans a lot to piss all over them the way he has. ... not exactly the sort of person I can be very fond of anymore, sorry. And believe me, that makes me more sad then anyone knows.

The second reunion tour whilst musically better, was not as successful as the first for several reasons:
Firstly, the first tour was billed as a 'one time only event', hence it sold very quickly, couple that to the hardcore fans 30 years of anticipation.
The second tour coming so quickly after the 'one time only event' was never going to be as successful.
Secondly, First tour saw many fans attending multiple shows (again due to this 'one time only event'), this didn't happen as much with the second tour for obvious reasons. I know several people who went 4 or 5 times to tour 1 but only attended 1 gig on tour 2.
Tour 1 was 99.99% sold out, tour 2 was not - granted SOME venues were sold out but some were not.
The knock on effect to merchandise and live recordings will be proportionate to the attendance for the same resons, in other words they will have sold more T Shirts, Programmes & CD's on Tour 1 than on Tour 2.
Tour 2 will have been more expensive to put on - extra venues and the European bit.
So, whilst MUSICALLY Tour 2 was considerably better, when it all nets down on the profit & loss account there will have been less income generated, hence the first tour was more successful.

I disagree that the second tour was less successful. No figures to back it up; that's just my gut feeling based on little more than the fact that there were more dates and they did really well at Dublin. The first tour was less than 99.99% sold out, if for no other reason than the Wembley gig wasn't particularly well-attended. And let's not forget that both tours could have been far more successful if there hadn't been the apparent effort to under-promote them. I believe that there are probably lapsed FF fans who are still unaware that the reunion gigs happened.

The man is trying to convince himself as much as he is others. Delusional and a bit embarrassing. How much longer before Rossi and friends are touring old people's homes and children's parties? Francis has dabbled with solo projects previously, KOTDH and more especially OSAAT. Personally I thought the gigs on the OSAAT tour were refreshing and enjoyable - especially coming as they did before the full knowledge of the FF reunions became available and that happened just two to three years later.
But at no time has he let go of the Quo aprons and made a product that has no association at all with Quo. Either in terms of writing or style. The closest maybe he got to it was something like OSAAT the album title track, which, his voice apart, does not resemble Quo in any way. His insecurity with the solo thing came across in interviews at the time when he appeared almost desperate for media and radio interviewers to tell him how good it was. I remember a R2 interview exactly like that.
This is (just one) large part of the problem with his continuing relationship slide with long standing Quo fans who still see him playing and image wise as the iconic driving rock guitar leader of the UK's premier boogie institution. Because he has constantly over many many years adopted this aloof and reluctant halfway house stance towards committing fully to the music that made him (and his former three band-mates) famous - yet never having the courage and conviction to completely let go of it, and occasionally in glimpses even appeared to fully embrace it once more. This constant ying-yang of his has effectively toyed with those fans in a way that brings to mind the carrot and stick analogy.
Unfortunately Rick, when in better health, and always rooted much more in the original Quo legacy - has never challenged Francis with this at any time and pushed him to a point where he has had to decisively jump one way or the other. Solo (pop/country rock) or definitive Quo style rock? It is a watered down compromise version of the original Quo style that has prevailed.
His contradictory and totally disjointed and conflicting inner conversation, which occasionally over spills into outer spoken conscious word to reveal this jumbled mind-set has gone something like this....
*Gets into bed at night at home in Purley*
"The frantics? Will I or won't I? I can't !! I/we left this stuff behind decades ago with Madge and then Tommy. But I want them to look at me, so ok, once. Wow, what a reaction. Weird.. But I don't want them to look at me What the fuss? What the *bleep* is up with them all? But I want them to look at me. So, go on then, one more time. No, no more. I don't want them to look at me.. its deja vu with what went wrong before. They all live in the past and I'm a Gemini and look ahead. And I want them to look at me. Far too stuck in the seventies - them, and the music. You know what though!.. these 70's hits get 'Quo'd-down' perfectly into the type of country pop/rock music I like. And I need them to look at me....
But I don't want them to look at me - so best not risk putting it out in my own name. And I got to think of my bank account. But I need them to look at me - I got enough people involved in Quo around me to present the music under the name of Quo. So I don't have to risk going solo and have them look at me. But I still want them to look at me. Going to get the best of both worlds, a winner once again. As a lyric in one of my songs goes"
*Turns over and goes to sleep*
He also has a management alongside him to willingly collaborate into turning old Quo product into the new pub band jolly. Like it or loathe it, one has to admit that it works and people in general along with generations of fans who are not "stuck in the 70's" like it. So no need to worry about his former band members and any of those fans stuck in the 70's. The hits are still useful to 'Quo-down' though. Perfect retirement solution. Pats on the back for SP and FR
.. And meanwhile, Rick, the nearly 50 yr engine room of the whole operation, watches on in recuperation - seemingly already out of sight and out of mind within the SP/FR camp.
Look at me. Says Francis.
