For any one who might want to watch this on the Red Button or listen on R2, the Quo set starts at 17.55pm.
I am curious but not expecting too much.

Girls have featured in Quo as early as IYCSTH and the backing vocals on songs like Oh What A Night. Francis had female backing singers to his solo gigs. I thought they provided a nice foil with their singing to the boys with their guitars and vocals in those gigs. Other male rock bands have involved them through the years - and good thing too Nothing new or controversial here then

They are just singing loudly into the microphone, offering no dynamics to the songs whatsoever. They add nothing. No subtle layers that add to the melody or anything. Fucking hell, me or you could show up and sing loudly into a microphone

Fucking hell, me or you could show up and sing loudly into a microphone That would be too much like karaoke Go check out the female backing singers on Clapton's unplugged gig or the female choir singing on Champagne Supernova with Noel Gallagher or the backing singers that used to sing with ABBA. Subtle, layers of harmonies that actually add to the song. Screaming "THAT'S A FACT!!" or "GOTTA HAVE SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT!!" does not add anything to the song, except just having an extra voice for the sake of it or, in Francis' case, just to have female singers there. Seriously, me or you could have went in and done that.

My karaoke comment was intended for the part of your post where you said you or I could have done it.
I understand what you are saying in terms of the comparisons with other acts you gave. The backing girls to Francis/Quo's band yesterday obviously didn't add anything in the way that The Corrs did for their lovely music. (I only wish I had got to see them while they were around) But the principle at least of putting girls in the band is still something I welcome (in this type of country rock format)even if the results are not spectacular.
IMO if Francis wants to play country rock music with female accompaniment he needs someone alongside him like Sheryl Crow or even Shania Twain. But in order to do that it would obviously definitely have to be under a different name to Status Quo.
I like country rock music and am a fan of the likes of Sheryl Crow, the folk tinged K.T Tunstall and also have enjoyed some of the country pop that Shania did. So that is why I like the idea of having girls in this band...if they were used professionally and were given more of a respectful role than eye candy for male members of the audience (and probably for Francis himself)

They reformed last year. Fun fact. My bro went to college with one of them and has their demos on cassette from their first sessions

I've got Andreas solo album released a couple of years or so back.

I'd assumed they were not producing anymore, so haven't bothered to look at their website!
