Most of us not accept that this is just now rossi quo and we know where it is going..
But here's the thing, when did they get the idea. Was it after Rossi' last fail solo venture. Did he and porter plan at that stage this would be the direction. Did the decide that after electrics that perhaps rossi would dump parfitt as he did before...
And then did they rub their hands when parfitt got this ill..
From where I am sit ting, this was calculated..Parfitt just got out of the way quicker than they thought

As much as many of us don't like it we can't forget the fact that they ain't getting any younger. Ideally they should have called it a day after the reunion tours and gone out on a high but we all know Rossi likes to keep the dosh coming in and this is one way of doing it.
It's utter bollocks of course but he doesn't care.

Touring and promoting the FF is a lot of hassle because each member wants to have a say (and quite rightly so) about where a project is heading. Francis wants full control. Rhino, Andy and Leon simply stand in the corner.
Also, it is much harder to promote to serious music fans than casual music fans.
With rock you are promoting via Classic Rock, Planet Rock, etc. All completely to do with the music, read by and delivered by diehards.
Whereas with CQ, This Morning, Loose Women, etc are preoccupied with lifestyle, watched by and delivered by people whose only taste of music is X Factor.
With regards to Aquostic, the band have nothing left after constantly packing studio albums with 14-15 tracks. Bula Quo gave them a chance to stray from the Quo formula, but even then, the ideas were tired and cliché. Considering he's an ardent supporter of Quo being more than just three chords, Francis' contributions were shocking. Both generic, repetitive tosh.
With the majority of fans being unperturbed about image and the band continuing an odd relationship with Radio 2, Aquostic is the future.

Planned or otherwise it has on the face of it all worked out well for Rossi.
Rick gets sick August 2014 they do a ''one off'' gig without Rick.(And fans accepted this which was the beginning of the end of Rick)
Rick get sick on the bus in 2015-Rossi rolls over and goes back to sleep.
Rick gets sick again, 3 strikes and your out rule kicks in, Rossi finally has got rid of his 3 Quo band ''mates'', he's all alone and that's a fact.
It's hard to know now, why Rossi ever agreed to the reunion, was he sucked in or bullied into it and before he knew where he was he was onstage in Hammersmith, realising how important the Status Quo he spent 30yrs trying to kill off meant to the Quo army. That's when Rossi and Porter lost the plot completely. instead of realising they had something special going on, which could have been kept for special festivals/tours to run alongside CQ, but as we all know that didn't happen. Instead they poured cold water over the whole thing, and everyone,Alan,John,Bob,Rick and the Fans were all wrong, everyone bar Francis Rossi. If only they had a proper manager in 86 and or 2014,we might still have a proper band to follow now.

The reunion was the payoff.

Fair enough and more luck to Alan and John. However what a pity Rossi didn't get onboard (apart from his playing onstage) and embrace it with the same affection that the other 3 did.!!

It's hard to know now, why Rossi ever agreed to the reunion, Hindsight is always 20/20 isn't it. The way I see it is that people try things out and see where it takes them. The reason Francis agreed to do the gigs maybe for one reason but he didn't have a crystal ball to know how he would feel during the tour and afterwards. But once he did know how he felt about it all he changed his direction. I don't like it any more than you do, but I think life is more complicated that we often realise. And most people don't sit and think through all the various outcomes before they take action.

I originally had believed he was genuinely pleased to have mended fences with Alan, as a lovely by-product benefit of the reunion package - but the cynic in me now can't help but wonder how much of that bon ami footage at meeting up and then rehearsal time was done just for show and pre gig publicity.
Also, yes its true the introductions he gave at the start of the gigs to Alan and John seemed truly heart-warming like long lost friends set next to the outpourings of the fans - but somehow it seems a lot shallower now as time and events have taken on much less appealing tones.

Hi All, Colm, So when Francis was fawning over 'Alan' in the reunion shows do you think it was all an act then ? I certainly thought he honestly was chuffed to be playing with him again ? If it was just an act then shame on him and he deserves all the negativity that has been levelled at him over the years since the split.
He should have stuck to his guns and refused to even consider the reunion gigs unless it was like PF said in his post below that:- "Rossi and Rick lost a case in court to Alan and John. The reunion was the payoff"
This if true ? is just proof that what many have said about him, being all about the money and he has just ripped off the fans for a pay day all along since the split with the record company waving the contract in front of his face. In all honesty I thought he was probably just a bit insecure with all the success he has had with the band and the various incarnations along with his own skill at the bands recording/writing and playing ?
Geoff.

How well planned the whole journey has been, I really don't know, but they set off on a journey to the Francis Rossi Status Quo Show at the point where Alan based himself in Australia, imo. The latest developments with Rick only really confirm that's what has been presented as Status Quo since '86 - it's Rossi's band.

From what I've been lead to believe, Rick has not been getting on too well with any of them since 2014
I said it, that morning back in November 2012, a massive can of worms was opened

Bumped into a guy I hadn't seen in about 30 yrs last night ...and this made me laugh...he said he remembers coming round to my house in 1984, and I apparently said "I remember when Quo were a proper band before John Coghlan left" ....think we must have been heading to Brid or somewhere , but to answer the OP - in my eyes before then!

The latest developments with Rick only really confirm that's what has been presented as Status Quo since '86 - it's Rossi's band. The best hey-day may well be long gone, but I think to suggest that Quo has been Francis band since 86 is going a little bit too far. Also I don't think that is fair to Rick either, as whilst its true that Francis has dominated the song writing in that time and Rick's writing has been a little inconsistent to say the least, the band could never have lasted anywhere near another 30 yrs without him.
Francis could do well by admitting this much more.
Whilst albums like Thirsty Work have appeared close to seeming like Francis solo albums - its only, sadly, since Ricks latest especially serious heart problems that I think the band can be called Francis band in any really true sense of the word. The current Aquostic gigs are bringing that realisation home in spades.
Its hard to be critical of Rick at a time like this - but perhaps he should have been more pro-active in terms of helping to speed up the possibilities of FF reunion (to happen even ten years earlier than it did) by taking a tougher stance with Francis to push him that way. However, he has been between a rock and a hard place in that respect because by making more waves he risked ended up losing any chance of playing rock/pop music at all through destabilising CQ too much.
There is also no doubt that the increasing management alliance with Francis hasn't helped in that respect either.

The genie is well and truly out of the bottle , and has been since the first night at Manchester 2013. The fans saw it coming. Francis (because of ego?) was the last to comprehend it. He surely knows it now. Unless I'm very mistaken, there's won't be much of a hardcore left at any CQ gigs again. It astonished me at Download 2014 that the hardcore was almost entirely absent, and now (with the way Rick is being treated) it will get like that headline UK gigs. The official line may dismiss the reunion as a "project". But no, it was a revelation.
