Given you could buy a "meet and greet" during the FF tours, I wonder if they considered offering Rick's place in the band up for auction for the gigs he's had to miss through illness?
What would you have been willing to bid to effectively be forever documented in history as being a one-time member of Status Quo?
Actually, imagine if you could buy any band member's place...
We could all club together and get Alan and John back in!

Wouldn't even have been considered.
Quo don't want anything to do with people who know what real rock music is. Too busy associating themselves with individuals who constantly kiss their arse, and have the audacity to work in the industry. Charlatans and all.
And anyone who understands what Quo were once (and should be) about wouldn't, IMO, sully themselves by walking onto stage with a bunch of mercenaries, even if they DIDN'T have to pay for the "privilege".

I'd say his tribute bands bookings will go up as he's always remembered as Ricks reserve. Good on him.

Anyone who's ever owned a Tele and has blasted out their own take on the Caroline intro must have dreamed of that... I know I have!

I've been a musician for donkeys years and I wouldn't even dream of doing it.
I'd feel like a right tit

I'm astonished by this idea. Are you serious Beano?
To me, that would be a serious insult to Rick's contribution to the band. Whatever anyone thinks of the musical abilities of Freddie Edwards or Ritchie Malone, Francis and co believe they are good enough to maintain a quality live gig for an audience that thought they were going to seeing Rick play. I wasn't delighted by this idea but I could see that they were trying their best to keep the show on the road in difficult circumstances until Rick is well enough to return. In the theatre, they employ understudies for precisely this reason.
But to open each gig on a night by night basis to any tribute band Rick player would be too risky for a number of reasons. 1) They would have to audition each one to ensure quality. (Lots of extra work/time.)
2) They would have to rehearse even more to ensure quality and that they were familiar with all the set. (Lots of extra work and by now stress level of Mr Rossi who enjoys routine and familiarity would be going through the roof and might affect his playing.)
3) As FW said, he's an excellent musician but he wouldn't feel comfortable on stage. So what if they hired someone who actually lost their nerve on the night? (Francis might totally lose it by now with the stress. And if he did cope, think of the payback on his nerves as the tour continues.) 4) To the audience it really would look like a slap in the face for Rick and Rick's loyal fans. (the backlash and public outcries would grown and grow and may even start to lose the CQ audience. Big risk.)
To have a one-off gig where a fan plays okay but for a whole section of a tour - too big a risk for both the pockets and health of your talent.

It was intended as an ironic suggestion, sorry it didn't come across in that way. I am staggered that they could ever consider performing as Status Quo with anyone other that Rick Parfitt on rhythm guitar. As posted on another topic, they should have called it a day after the FF tours were over. I suspect Matt worked it out and saw what a massive step backward it would be to go back to "current Quo", and I wouldn't be at all surprised if this contributed to his decision to leave the band.

Beano Yes, that did occur to me but I enjoyed thinking about this seriously... Nice irony though.

Seems to me Quo's management have been both missing & turning tricks for decades.
