The second gig of 2016 for me, this time at Parc-y-Scarlets in Llanelli. Big rugby stadium, with an area of seating and large standing area. Nicely organized, easy entry and a barrier spot secured on Rhino's side of the stage. Two hard rock supports in the shape of The Departed and The Jokers got the crowd going and it was a good-sized crowd (not as big as Taunton, but 3-4000) by the time Quo appeared on stage, fairly late by their standards at 9pm.
No surprises in terms of the set (with Burning Bridges staying in the encore), but the vibe on stage was something else. Rarely have I seen the band having this much fun amongst themselves, definitely a very enjoyable gig for all of them with a lot of joking around from everyone and Richie being very much made part of it all (and a special moment for him having his Dad in the audience).
A great gig and it seemed like a really fun gig for the band too, brilliant night.

Is it just me, or do some people think they are always great. Whatever the set or lineup ?

Why were they playing in a big rugby stadium if the crowd was only 3-4,000?

That is why it is so frustrating that they never played far more different songs. I wouldn't have hesitated to buy a ticket if the set had been revamped with new songs of their own. They are not the FF, but they are still tight knit musicians.

I just say it as I see it. It was a good crowd for the size of the area they'd allocated and the response was really good. The band were clearly enjoying themselves and I had a great time, simple as that.

You can say what you like about line ups and "CQ/Panto Quo etc" (and I have) but when you are actually at a gig you simply call at as you see it ! I saw them in Switzerland recently and yes they were very good and the large crowd loved them. Doesnt mean it's right that Rick is not there nor does it mean that it's a patch on FF but neither of these two things stop it still being a good gig !

I will "keep 'em coming" mate. Next gig is a week and a half away though, the eagerly-awaited Union Chapel Aquostic gig as warm up for the massive Hyde Park Radio 2 event. The Union Chapel venue looks amazing, what a privilege to be able to see Quo in such an intimate setting, can't wait!

Alan, Rick and John won't be at Union Chapel, as you know. The band is not the Frantic Four, nor is it pretending to be. It's current Quo or, as I prefer to call them, Status Quo. I did see John perform on Sunday afternoon at his local pub in Shilton, Oxfordshire, though...

Is it just me, or do some people think they are always great. Whatever the set or lineup ? Lee, aka the rockdoctor, has been following Quo (through thick and thin) all over the world, from Australia, for a looong time. Geez I shake my head and wonder how he does it. Must have a lot of browny points saved up or won lotto big time. All the best to you Lee and wouldn't mind reading report of your JC gig. quojc Heres Lee's website for those who don't know of it. www.leehawkins.com/NoFrames/quointro.htm
