Over on holiday visiting family and Erlach only 20 minutes from their house. They bought us tickets for a Lakeland Festival which included a random Swiss "Coldplay" style boring band, Quo and Foreigner. Quo were on second. I went with some trepidation and got tanked up on a a good few beers in the sun before they came on. They sounded very good it has to be said, just wrong without Rick though. The organiser chap read out the statement about Rick and Rossi made brief mention of it too. Freddie was solid enough and Andy and Rhino filled in well enough on the vocals. However, I really struggled watching Quo without Rick and if it was not for the wonderful setting, sun, beer and the crowd atmosphere it would have been a real struggle.
The crowd were the most surprising element. They were very loud and absolutely loved Quo from start to finish, even the saggy bit in the middle with The Oriental and CUOY. Rossi was in good form despite struggling with a swarm of flies that were attracted to the lights ! Same set list as recent weeks with the changes due to Rick not being there (DWMT for BFM etc). Highlights for me were PP, HYB, DWMT and ROLD. More due to fact I love those songs. Low points obvious as The Oriental and Army.
Foreigner were next (I think going by posters etc in the town, Quo were the headliners but I think they were playing in Austria the night after so perhaps wanted away promptly) and suffice to say Quo (even with this line up) kicked them out of the park. They sounded good enough but the crowd just did not get into them as they did with Quo. The frontman eventually got the crowd going and when the better known songs were played they got going. They started with no original members (!) but then Mick Jones came on part way though.
So all in all pleased I went and I did enjoy Quo but perhaps the most telling comment came from my wife who when I asked her what she thought of Quo she said they were very good but a bit more "karaoke" than the last time she had seen them (about 10 years ago)......
