Been clearing out my garage and I have a box of old music vhs tapes, mostly concerts. Official releases. Any idea if anybody buys these kind of things any more. I still have a vhs player but I know I'll never watch these again.

and has anyone digitised VHS tapes straight to PC and how did you do it. Looking to do it as cheaply as possible. I can see various convertor kits.

HI kevtic.About 5 years ago I bought a sony combi dvd/vhs player recorder that allows you to record from vhs to dvd assuming there is no copy protection on the original tape.I have transferred many of my home recordings direct to dvd with no problem. The thing is when you actually see the quality of those old recordings you realise just how far video quality has progressed over the years. The thing about vhs and other tape formats is the fact they start to oxidise and degrade from the minute you make the original recording. So tthe sooner you make the copy the better. The sony combo I have allows you to simply place your vhs tape in,insert a blank dvd and press one button to transfer. Have a look on ebay or gumtree, shouldn't cost you more than 50 quid or less and is the easiest way to do what you want.

I still don't trust home made DVDs. Eventually my old tapes will dissolve and by that time I won't care that much It's worth hanging on to my Lone Ranger episodes as the early seasons on DVD cost a fortune.

I'll have a look at the combo. Yeah tape quality can be really poor. I think some of the stuff I've got isn't available on dvd. I've also got stuff taped off the TV. Just looking for a cheap way to do it.

I had a big clean-out earlier this year and all my old VHS tapes and music cassettes went to the dump. Most of the music can be found digitised these days and the vhs stuff can all be found on YouTube.
