LYNYRD SKYNYRD GIG IN ATLANTA CANCELLED DUE TO GARY ROSSINGTON ILLNESSLynyrd Skynyrd founding member Gary Rossington was taken ill yesterday (Monday 18th July 2016) and the band were subsequently forced to cancel a scheduled show at Artpark, Lewiston tonight, Tuesday 19th July.
An official statement from the band's representatives reads: "Lynyrd Skynyrd's performance at Artpark in Lewiston, NY on 19th July has been cancelled. We hope to reschedule the show in the near future. Founding member and guitar player, Gary Rossington, is seeking doctor's evaluation in Atlanta after experiencing some chest pains. Lynyrd Skynyrd will resume their tour once Gary is cleared by medical professionals. We will advise as soon as we have additional information."
Rossington underwent a heart bypass in 2003 and in early 2015 he was hospitalized for an abdominal infection. In November 2015, Skynyrd pulled the remaining tour dates for 2015 to allow him time to recover following a heart attack in early October. The heart attack took place only days before he had been due to undergo heart surgery. Doctors subsequently repaired two heart stents and added a third during treatment and his health crisis prompted the band to postpone their upcoming shows.
