Right... here it comes, my review of the visits of the different, but same, performers of the sacred musical treasury of the Quo.
The thing is, you can't label this. The saturday with John Coghlan's Quo was a sweaty, in your face, delivery of the early Quo, the Quo that once captivated so may of us then-teens, and made us stay with them...
Some call this a garage band, but hey, the Quo of the FF origin also sounded like this. So... I rest my case. This was THE shuffle-meister at large. There were some equipment troubles, but all the band delivered to a horde of earnest, sweating fans, a stonking two set of rough Quo, a meet and greet afterwards so I could have my pic with John(!) and everything so very lovely arranged by Olle and his folks. I met some folks I haven't seen in 25 years!! I MUST mention the support act. An AC/DC tribute band with Olle's son playing lead, and boy, could they play. So great!
Then came sunday. I was not so very keen on going, but I had already bought the season card for the amusement park so, what the heck....
And I don't regret a minute of it! This version of the Quo played an awesome "Nowadays-Quo-performance". Just as BAD as they were in 2012, just as great they were this evening.
Rossi, I have NOT forgiven him, not a bit, but phew... He could be a stand-up comedian any day. He had the amusement park in his hands. Freddie delivered! He was a great fill-in for my hero, who was sorely missed, but in the overall-performance of the evening, Freddie did a great job! Rhino and Andy took a few of Rick's spots, and they did them well.
The audience... Great! No-one is headbanging these days, but it was not stale and uninterested.
This could also be a garage band... I have heard the sleek, polished stuff from a lot of cover bands over here...
Concludundum:
If you want Quo as they were, when we were.. and I do, then go for the JCQ. If you want Quo at their best of today, as they were on the sunday, and I, sort of reluctantly, want that too, then CQ is a bang for the buck.
So doctors of this very message board, please diagnose me. Am I in need of a vacation or?
Pardon me english, I'm not from 'round here...
Take care!
