This photograph of a father holding his son in the shower has been shared tens of thousands of times on Facebook in the last fortnight. But over the same period it's also also been taken down by the social media platform more than once before ultimately being reinstated each time. Why? But for some people the image is inappropriate at best and at worst has undertones of paedophilia. Whitten has been surprised by this reaction and was shocked when people posted negative comments about what was for her a beautiful moment. "There is nothing sexual or exploitative about this image," she wrote in the initial post. "I was taken aback by how many people missed the story or didn't even look past the nudity to find the story." link

You can decide either to see the best or worst in a photo.
In that one, I see the best. His daughter was really ill so he was doing what a dad does.

I find nothing wrong with the photo.
What I have a problem with is that if this had been a woman in the photo instead of a man there would be no-one discussing this at all. Talk about sexism.

But I agree that its still scary that someone would put their family out there to have the world gawp at it, beautiful photo that it is.

And that is why (in my opinion) it is totally unsuitable for the social media goldfish bowl. The days where people just got on with their lives, warts and all behind closed doors has sadly gone. There was never a need to 'share' this sort of thing with thousands before, so why now? Just because its 'possible' to do so doesn't make it automatically appropriate to do so.

Double standards/hypocrisy. Blame the media and government! through political correctness, for creating hysteria over child abuse cases over the last 20+ years. Men aren't allowed to sit next to children on flights for no other reason than they're men, are instantly assumed to be, 'up to something', if they go anywhere near a playground, alone, again, are assumed to be there for a specific reason only. And, if they happen to be holding a camera, God-forbid! If a woman did the same, no-one bats an eyelid. Society has been conditioned into thinking every man, out there, is a potential paedophile. And, people feel uncomfortable with the idea of such photographs as the one featured here, not because there's anything which suggests there's something nefarious going on, but because it's a man in close proximity to a child who are both naked in a shower. As you say, picture the same scenario but with a woman instead of a man and there'd be little or no fuss.

Some exaggerated perspective I think. How many men in the population as a whole actually do go to playgrounds alone? Especially lurking around with a camera! The isolated nutcase perhaps who makes the news for inappropriate/suspicious behaviour of whatever kind and therefore gives the impression of being a larger anomaly than reality proves. On the other hand, how many guys sitting in a park/playground in their lunch break, near to their place of work perhaps, eating a sandwich are immediately considered weird or 'up to something'? People just don't notice these things in reality. They do not stand out as suspicious. These days people carry their phones with them like personal appendages anyway, so who would notice even if they were taking odd pictures. Which the majority don't.
For that matter, how many single females would go to a playground alone (with a camera!) ? Other than maybe meeting friends or other mums with their children. Unless they are the very minute percentage of insecure and unstable women, in real population terms, who are baby snatchers.
Such behaviour is unusual and odd for either gender. But its very rare and a tiny tiny minority . A very tiny minority that look and act (very obviously) suspicious. And of course these come into condemning focus. But the fact remains its a tiny percentage of the population. And on that rare, in relative terms basis, anyone regardless of gender is equally culpable.
This photo is unusual, and it is that which provokes reaction. Again, how many men, would reproduce a photo like this for public gaze? Very very few - and the majority who do bathe with their child would do it privately (and innocently) as suggested above.
I think that such an unusual and deliberately opinion provoking photo should not be used to extrapolate overall judgements and conclusions, lumping whole genders and sections of society together.

I wouldn't say its disgusting, its very natural, but it should be something kept sacred for the family album. The very fact they thought its ok to publish it to the world via social media is what automatically turns it into something questionable. Plus you could argue why take it as a photo at all?

This topic is ancient. First I've seen it. The little girl will now probably be in her late teens. Bet the photo wouldn't be taken now I'm not on any form of social media (apart from this place which hardly counts) but I do often wonder what encourages people to put up what seems to be all manner of inane drivel. But it's all 'sharing' I suppose. I don't really have any opinion on the photograph itself other than I tend to agree with others that it's not something I personally would put out there for public consumption. It's seriously naive to think you wouldn't be courting huge amounts of negativity. I notice the lens hasn't steamed up. Was this a cold shower? Just being flippant, as is my want
