The rape of Recy Taylor: I thought this was a very strong documentary about a black woman being raped in Alabama back in 1944.

Hi All, Free State Of Jones 2016 (Via BBCi Available until 28/08) Although not considered a box office hit because it barely made half the budget spent on it's making, I really enjoyed this historical drama based on the true story of Newton Knight who led a rebellion against the confederates, the film includes flashes of his Great Grandson who has problems of his own in 1948 trying to marry his long term girlfriend because of his mixed race ancestry.......
Starring:-Matthew McConaughey,Gugu Mbatha-Raw,Keri Russell,Mahershala Ali,Brian Lee Franklin,Jacob Lofland,Bill Tangradi, Sean Bridgers,Kirk Bovill,Christopher Berry,Donald Watkins,Artrial Clark,Manny Penton and Wayne Pére.
In 1863, Mississippi farmer Newt Knight serves as a medic for the Confederate Army. Opposed to slavery, Knight would rather help the wounded than fight the Union. After his nephew dies in battle, Newt returns home to Jones County to safeguard his family but is soon branded an outlaw deserter. Forced to flee, he finds refuge with a group of runaway slaves hiding out in the swamps. Forging an alliance with the slaves and other farmers, Knight leads a rebellion that would forever change history.

Hi All, Bill 2015 (Via BBCi Available until 22/08) Quite amusing film that at times is very pythonesque IMPO, along with a couple of rather famous actor cameos it is mainly the talents of the group of actors behind children's TV series Horrible Histories and Yonderland. I like this type of theatre with the same actors playing different characters with a few modern references and a few funny end credit scenes relating to the film...
Starring:-Mathew Baynton,Martha Howe-Douglas,Ben Willbond,Simon Farnaby,Jim Howick,Laurence Rickard,Helen McCrory, Rufus Jones,Justin Edwards,Damian Lewis,David Crow,John Henry Falle,Jamie Demetriou and Richard Atwill.
Bill is set during Shakespeare's "lost years"—the crucial period, long a mystery to scholars, covering his rise from obscurity in Stratford-upon-Avon to fame as a playwright in London. According to the official synopsis, the film will tell the "real story" of what happens when "hopeless lute player Bill Shakespeare leaves his family and home to follow his dream. It’s a tale of murderous kings, spies, lost loves, and a plot to blow up Queen Elizabeth I." Writer Rickard further explained that this "very different" version of the future Bard has already tried "everything from contemporary dance to playing lute in a band. He's never found his calling.

Hi All, Long Walk To Freedom 2014 (Via BBCi available until 20/08) A really good well acted Biopic film IMPO. I don't know how true to life the film was apart from the obvious bits that are forever imprinted on most peoples minds i.e. His name/A Revolutionary opponent of apartheid/Campaigner for equality/Leader of the ANC/Wembley concert/The Song Nelson Mandela (By the Specials a Coventry band ) and of coarse known for his marriage to Winnie/Eventual president of Sth Africa and lastly but not least the latest conspiracy that is the Mandela effect.
Starring:-Idris Elba,(Siza Pini - Mandela (age 7–9),Atandwa Kani - Mandela (age 16–23),Naomie Harris,Tony Kgoroge, S'Thandiwe Kgoroge,Riaad Moosa,Zolani Mkiva,Simo Mogwaza,Tshallo Sputla Chokwe,Fana Mokoena,James Cunningham, Thapelo Mokoena,Jamie Bartlett,Deon Lotz,Terry Pheto,Sello Maake,Gys de Villiers,Zenzo Ngqobe,Carl Beukes,A.J. van der Merwe, Nomfusi Gotyana,Andre Jacobs,Louis van Niekerk,Adam Neill,Lindiwe Matshikiza,Refilwe Charles,Semuhle Shangasi, Khumbuzile Maphumulo and John Herbert.
The remarkable life of South African revolutionary, president and world icon Nelson Mandela (Idris Elba) takes center stage. Though he had humble beginnings as a herd boy in a rural village, Mandela became involved in the anti-apartheid movement and co-founded the African National Congress Youth League. His activities eventually led to his imprisonment on Robben Island from 1964 to 1990. In 1994, Mandela became the first president of democratic South Africa.

Saw this last,£14 for a very uncomfortable seat with a drinks holder on both arm rests(leads to a very fidgety audience). Big budget nonsense with actors saying lines that are silly.Lots of chasing about with stuff shrinking or enlarging.I wonder if Marvel has shot it's bolt, good as comic books but as films. They always have the irritating Stan Lee moment somewhere. There is a plot about mounting a rescue in the quantum world but a total lack of tension or genuine fright is missing.Load of rubbish to be honest.I went to a 21:00 hrs showing and there were eleven people in the room..says all you need to know.Probably be on tv Boxing day 2021 and then the odd bank holiday until it goes to the Sunday afternoon "Not this again" slot on ITV 2.

They left out the daring jail break led by UB40,a glaring oversight. Would have been better with Stallone in the lead role and a bit of artistic license would have been okay......some sort of show down with FW De Klerk, played by Samuel L Jackson, would have livened it up a bit..might have had Stallone scoring the winning try at the rugby to enhance the historical feel.

Hi All, The Odyssey 2016 I rather enjoyed this French/Belgian biopic about Jacques-Yves Cousteau especially some of the underwater scenes, be warned thought it's 99% French with subtitles and a smattering of English where appropriate. I remember watching his films many moons ago great stuff......
Starring:-Lambert Wilson,Pierre Niney,Ulysse Stein,Audrey Tautou,Laurent Lucas,Benjamin Lavernhe,Rafaël de Ferran, Vincent Heneine,Thibault de Montalembert,Roger Van Hool,Chloé Hirschman,Adam Neill,Olivier Galfione,Martin Loizillon and Chloé Williams.
Thirty years in the life of Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau, the researcher, scientist, inventor, and filmmaker whose contributions made the general public more curious about the sea.

Watched an old 1962 film called the boys.Usual court room stuff that becomes suddenly shocking when it's clear it's the death penalty if found guilty.

Hi All, Following on from yesterdays viewing I watched the remake of Whisky Galore 2016. (Via Sky Cinema). I am sad to say that while it did have a few funny moments it's not a patch on the original IMPO. It added an extra unwanted twist along with some mixing of storyline taken from the original that never made sense to me. i.e in the original it set the password joke up in the remake there was no set up just the punch line ? ? (I assume these changes was an attempt to put they're own stamp on the film ?) anyway that is just my opinion you either enjoy it or not simple!....
The cast has recognisable talent from both sides of the border with stand outs George Fisher (Rabb C Nesbit),Eddie Izzard and James Cosmo who fit they're roles perfectly, while not being up to the original it should not put anybody off from viewing it, accept it for what it is as each person view on anything are not the same...
Starring:-Gregor Fisher,Eddie Izzard,Sean Biggerstaff,Naomi Battrick,James Cosmo,Ellie Kendrick and Kevin Guthrie.
