Taking my wife to see UB40 at Brighton Centre on Tuesday. Bit confusing though since we saw UB40 last year but completely different band from what I can make out. Last year had the original guitarist (Robin something I think) with the original vocalists brother singing. This time it's Ali Campbell on vocals with a couple of other originals! And we think the Quo line ups are complicated!

The sites really playing up tonight.
The short version.....there are two bands using the UB40 name....Ali's is the best.
Seen them in Brum tonight....good as ever....enjoy.

Cheers Colin. Pretty much as I thought then. The non-Ali UB40 were excellent last year actually so really looking forward to the Ali band tomorrow night (apart from the drum solo - yawn!)

huge court case going on between "the 2 bands" ali was the first to leave then 2 others joined him and they went out as the original ub40. but there are still members left in the other ub40 who were original members. I love the music and have seen them loads of times, brighton was a great gig...... no seats.!!!!

Being a Brummie it's the law to like UB40....seen them a few times over the years but haven't seen the original band since 2008 just before Ali left as his brother Duncan who replaced him just doesn't do it for me. It's a shame because they were a great band. Ali's version of UB40 are selling put much bigger venues and even though it doesn't quite sound like the original band at least the vocals are better. Hopefully you'll both enjoy it and if goes off peacefully as there was a fight in the row behind me last night after just two songs and people were carted off my security. After that incident though the atmosphere was great. Edit.....I can't be arsed to sort the spelling mistakes out....bloody predictive text.

Well, thoroughly enjoyed the show at the Brighton Centre last night. Ali's UB40 were very slick and professional with most of the favourites played alongside a mixture of stuff I didn't know so well. And yes, Ali is still a great singer but........
I think I preferred the other version of the band we saw last year with Robin and Duncan on vocals. They just seemed to be more "into it" and really enjoying the music with better interaction with the crowd. Just seemed a bit more "authentic" somehow although I appreciate the Ali version is more popular. Would definitely recommend both though

I have been tempted to see the original band but the Mrs isn't interested in going. They are playing a gig in Coventry later this month but I think I'll wait to see if that version ever does Birmingham again and I may go and see them then.

Go and see them when you can Lozza....I know they don't like them on the official UB40 forum but Ali is out selling the others by miles. I just hope that one day they start talking again and get back together but if doesn't look too likely at the moment. Oh well if Axl and Slash can make up then anything can happen.
