Here was a band that made a very different album....then toured to show it was business as usual. Did they even play a single song off it? I'm guessing it must have been a relief to get to the gig and be reassured that Quo were still Quo.

I know I was so disappointed with the IYCSTH album, but I'm sure I expected nothing but another mind blowing Quo gig. And everything was business as usual indeed. The venues were packed, the fans were all up for it, and the band was loud, so loud. And yes, you're right, I felt reassured that Quo were still Quo.

1978/79 was a great time in general
There was Reading Festival in August and then the wonderful Hammy gigs. I've only got great memories of both the album release, its airplay from John Peel on his late evening radio show, and those gigs themselves.
I also remember hearing Again and Again for the first time when it was released as a single. Alan (Fluff) Freeman introduced it on his weekend show, while we were sitting round a calor gas stove listening to a tinny battery operated radio cassette whilst sipping hot soup from tin mugs. I was on a college organised Geography Field trip to Glossop in the Peak District. It rained and rained, but I didn't care less at the time.

Reading that gave me a flashback to 1976 heading home, on the bus, after a week long geology/history school excursion to the Snowy Mountains. We pulled into the Yass Pub for lunch and a bunch of us found the pool/snooker room where a jukebox sat in the corner... Well I wandered over and was very pleased to see Quos latest single 'Rain' was in it. Coin rattled in and the mighty Quo sprang to life. 'Play it again' was the call and next thing the cues replaced guitars and heads down ... we rocked.

Oh What a Night was also played at the Rennes gig. I agree, it's a brilliant boot, great to hear these songs so rarely played live!
