If you really listen to the drum sound you realise it is very dynamic. It can be loud then changes to be more silent. It is a part of the other dynamic instruments and song. It lives along with the others. Not just a steady beat that adds drumsound.
I really love the energy and dynamic feel. I am no musician so I guess someone can describe this in more musical terms.

Brought up on JC , so for me he IS the drummer. Jon Pertwee is Doctor Who as well. I thought Matt Smith was outstanding as Doctor Who. Tennant was good, but ended up a megalomaniac, which he played very well - but Matt balanced the Tom Baker lackadaisicalness with a sort of phenomenal loyalty and grit - IMO. Dr Who will not be any good until we have a one armed black muslim lesbian in the role to reflect the culture of the UK in 2016.The Tardis must no longer be a police box but a community help centre and drop in nursery for victims of abuse.

Actually Wallden I think you might ve nailed it in a way that a non drummer can recognise ... I recognise this, and I could not have said it myself. Hmm!

cactuspete I do tend to rattle on about this, I know, but I don't get much feedback. JC was able to play shuffle over the rest of the band playing straight, and no other Quo drummer did - in fact I've only heard Charlie Watts do it, aside from JC. Listen to the BFM solo section at 4:18 onwards as an example - listen to the cymbal/high-hat. JC is brilliant. Go see JC Quo, if you haven't already. Superb. Blast! My cassette player seems to have broken down No it hasn't. It just happened that the 3 sides of cassettes I tried were all on a blank bit. of course when the Mr tried it he picked the last side that wasn't on a blank bit. So now my moron rating has gone up Anyway the sound isn't good enough for me to pick out the cymbals from the hi hat. I really ought to upgrade some more of my Quo albums to CD! Let's try YouTube. My computer speakers aren't great but they are better than the cassette o master. I can just hear something going tick ... t-tick tick ... t-tick behind everything else. Is that it? I would call that syncopation, and I love it wherever I find it. ... BTW if you are ever notice someone in the tiers clapping 180 degrees out of sync with everyone else, that could be me. Now I'm gonna have to make a note to check this out on one of the reunion DVDs. It's a hard life!

Love the replies,
Can we agree that the aforementioned Mr Coghlan was "just a bit tasty on the skins ?"

I always thought the crow man was a bit creepy Cheers Maybe - but not as much as Raggety on Rupert Bear God, please no. The only thing that would shit me up as a child. I was scared absolutely shitless of Raggety.

I'm sorry but if that had been just another tribute band, without any connections to the band you all would have laughed at me if I told you that it was "dynamic" and "energetic"..

Even while the rest of the band are out n out "thump thump thump", JC's back there with his "t-tick t-tick t-tick..." quojc Now I know what I am listening for ... (and yes I have heard this somewhere else, but i cannot for the life of me think where) I've just been watching BFM on FF 2013 Hammersmith - and I can't catch him at it. Lots of timekeeping on the cymbal and a bit of double-time with his left hand towards the end, but no actual shuffle. !
