HAMMERSMITH ODEON / 28:02:76 /BLUE FOR YOU TOUR 01) Juniors Wailing 02) Mad About The Boy 03) Backwater 04) Just Take Me 05) Is There A Better Way 06) In My Chair 07) Little Lady 08) Most Of The Time 09) Rain 10) Forty-Five Hundred Times 11) Roll Over Lay Down 12) Big Fat Mama 13) Don't Waste My Time 14) Roadhouse Blues 15) Caroline 16) Bye Bye Johnny This was the second of many Quo concert's I attended at Hammersmith Odeon, between 1974-84 and this was my favourite venue in watching the band, loud, hard, heavy, sweaty and always in your face. The evening at Hammersmith always started with a few pre drinks in the near by Britannia pub, with its smokey atmosphere and the juke box thundering out non stop Quo until the last person left. After a walk under the urine smelling underpass and queuing for ages for a bag of chips, we were ready. After entering the Odeon, we would, in them days, check out the packed merchandise stand and buy the lasted tour shirt, badges, patches and programme. Another quick pint at bar upstairs, them we were ready to go. As this concert was nearly 2 weeks before the 'Blue For You' Album was released it would be the first time we heard Mad About The Boy & Is There A Better Way. The third track they performed from the album, 'Rain' was still high in the UK top 20 single chart.

On the exactly same day I bought the Blue For You album in a record store in Paris. I used to write the date of purchase on the sleeve in those days. It was the second Quo's LP I got, after Hello! (as a Christmas gift). And I sure didn't know that it was just released.

I find that date puzzling Nightrider, (28 February 1976) as it states on the Blue For You (2006 remastered edition) CD sleeve notes, that the album was released on 12th March 1976 and this is confirmed by the official album charts, stating it entered at #1 on 20th March 1976.

Yes, strange indeed. But maybe the release date in France was just earlier. I know myself, I can't be wrong (even if I was just 12 at the time)...

Amazing to think that 40 years ago on Feb 23 1976, AC/DC filmed It's A Long Way To The Top along the streets in Melbourne while Quo were selling out the Hammersmith. DC were unknown over your way. 40 years later AC/DC are selling out stadiums across the world with only one original band member left. I saw ACDC a few times before they left to conquer the world but imo Quo back then were way better than ACDC. What happened? I guess that's show business.

What happened was, amongst other things, Rossi thought he knew better than Lancaster
