Last night - a two part consecutive documentary. Two hours each programme
The Eagles are one of my favourite bands I saw the first part of the documentary which was on till midnight and have the second part recorded to watch this weekend. Fascinating story and background and a great insight into how some of their songs were created and inspired.
The inner tensions and ultimate collapse of the band following the release of the pinnacle Hotel California album has the parallels of so many bands including Quo. Two many chiefs wanting control and say of the music, too much time on the road together, far too many trippy substances and also at least one band member who ends up smashing things up
The endless debates on here about the FF glory days demise are rather put into perspective and context that Quo are far from unique in that respect of the ups and downs in their history. That thought was much in my mind watching the final 20 minutes of the first part of the documentary.
Joe Walsh sounded like he has had his fair few excesses in his time. Either that or he was on planet zog when the documentary interview was filmed
Looking forward to watching the second part this weekend

Have now seen the second part of that documentary. My question about Joe Walsh was answered. He became sober and straight from drink and drugs so he could be part of the band reunion. Good on him
The legacy of being an alcoholic and being zuzzed up with sustances is what has left him with the slurred voice. I guess some parallel with Ozzy Osbourne there.
It was poignant and sad seeing Glenn Frey in apparently good health since the documentary was only made in the last few years.
I saw the band on the European leg of that reunion tour in 1996 at Wembley Stadium. It was very disappointing sound-wise with a terrible echo and reverberation of the music and many punters, including us, got a refund from the ticket office.
But yes, one of the greatest rock bands of all time I would agree for sure

In regards to great songs put onto albums - no filler songs - The Eagles are probably the best of them all, from my perspective. From the first álbum through "Hotel California"...5 in all, those albums were wall-to-wall great. And about 40 minutes of their last studio álbum from 2008 was right up there with the first 5.
The Eagles could rock and they could do great melodies....they could also funk ("the song "On the Border" comes to mind). ... My favorite though was the obscure song "Try and Love Again", from "Hotel California" written and sung by Rand Meisner, who doesn´t get much ink but whose contributions to the band were substantial.
Good thread Señora Catlady, and RIP Glenn Frey.
