This thread has prompted me to watch this video again. We need another Bob Geldof for our time whilst the world sits back as pictures of children being deliberately starved appear on our screens. @4th Chord can ban me but I won't shut up.

Interesting little article on the BBC News app the other day in which an African politician (can't remember which one) says he was offended by the whole Band Aid project, but more particularly the lyrics of the song.
Personally, I think he seems to have missed the whole point. And it was hurriedly written to get it off the ground. But it's the type of opinion we hadn't been given before.

No good deed goes unpunished, expecially on the media.
I was midly amused-ish by the US version which was called "We are the World" and featured a huge buffet.
I dream about that buffet sometimes. I think there was a pineapple. There were probably shrimps too.

If my memory serves Rossi & Parfitt we’re off their heads during the recording. I think they were called to the Mic to do the line @ Here’s to You, here’s to them “ there is footage of it snd it was woeful 😂 Dropped from the recording. Although they were part of the Chorus line at the end.

They were. Clip here: linkWell, that was John Coghlan and Rick Parfitt, but who was the bloke in the middle? Always thought that character was based on Jeff Beck but it could be numerous bits and pieces of people in numerous other Rock bands. Always thought the Rick character was more Brian Connolly of Sweet and The Alan character Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath.

I actually read on Facebook last year that a lot of people claimed the lyrics of Do They Know It's Christmas were racist. When you listen to them, I'd say they were more condescending than racist but I'd always mitigate in Band Aid's favour given the urgency, the organisation and, most of all, the cause, regardless of any naivety at the start. Put it this way, if there was a famine in Scotland and the haggis harvest failed, I'd be quite happy for them to sing "Do they know it's St George's Day" and take the money to help us out There's a tendency to jump on the 'ist' bandwagon these days if something doesn't meet with an individual's approval.
