I heard the original today of Taking care of business by Bachman Turner Overdrive. First time I've heard it for years. But I am amazed at how simular the singer Randy Bachman sounds like Rhino.
So my point is, why on earth didn't Rhino sing the version on Riffs. Opportunity missed perhaps?

Never heard any version of that song, but each time someone uses "Rhino" and "singing" in the same sentence I run for the hills.

I remember one review of the Live! album at the time said something like " the lead vocalist would struggle to get a job with Bachman Turner Overdrive". They were talking about Alan and Junior's Wailing. I didn't mind BTO back in the day. The Not Fragile album did the rounds at school. As for Rhino singing this particular track, I think I agree that it's maybe not really suited as much to Francis as it might be to Rhino or Rick. I wouldn't call it an opportunity missed exactly because it's a nothing sort of track that would never have been a single or anything. They just wanted this album out of the way contractually so they could move on.

In hindsight I think opportunity missed isn't the right term 🤔 but after hearing the BTO version, which Quo must have before covering it, I was amazing at how simular the lead vocalist is to Rhino's voice. So you begin to wonder why didn't Rhino sing the version on Riffs. It would have been more suited to the song I think.

Funny thing is, I don't think Francis even liked the song. I remember in an interview (might have been in FTMO) that he thought the lyrics were lame. So, presumably, covering it wasn't his idea.

I've always liked this track, best track on the album for me in terms of the non Quo recorded originals anyway.
Just like the bluesy nature of it. Suits what Quo were & are in my view, for example it wouldn't have sounded out of place on the Heavy Traffic album.

I've had the BTO single since the 70's but I haven't played it in a very long time. Decades I suspect. But I did like it back then. And Quo make a half decent job of it. Very faithful to the original.
A relatively obscure thing to cover really. It was never a hit in the UK.

All the more reason to hand the vocals over to Rhino you could argue. I mean they must have at least played the BTO version, but it strikes me odd why they couldn't tell it sounds very similar to Rhino's vocal range and let him sing it. To put it another way its a wonder Rhino himself didn't pick up on that, but then do vocalists hear themselves in other artists, probably not. I was just blown away by how the original sounds like Rhino on vocals.
