This is a great question. i believe, maybe wrongly that folk on here would be much more accepting of this album if it was not under the Quo banner and of course Rick is pretty absent on the credits. I had long since given up on hearing a Down Down, Backwater, Caroline from the band ever again so for me I was much more amenable to hearing different stuff. What I did not want to hear was a dreadful “ not at all “ type track which had appeared on Perfect Remedy. Quo had long since lost their shuffle and groove. Whether you believe the band finished around 81 or not ,trying to recapture the FF sound was not going to happen. The voice of FR can elevate many an average song and his voice is superb on this album. Apart from the odd duffer and the awful Quo by numbers “ I didn’t mean it “ the album works for me. Thinking back to a monster band playing Forty five hundred times and Roadhouse Blues live we had come to this. Well, we had come to this long before so why take it out on this album just because it is softer ? If this was a FR solo effort I believe it would have gone down well albeit too light for the heavier rocker.

You lucky, would luv to hear Quo at the pub playing snooker and a few drinks. It wasn't Quo. Or Francis Rossi's solo album i mean. Certainly wrote a few tunes for that period including the b sides of the singles too.
