I've always liked this album and the way it was produced. Agree that there are too many tracks, the covers were fillers that could have easily been left off with no detrimental impact. Just working on my Quo scrapbook project this evening and came across this review of RTYD in Q magazine of all places from 1991. The writer - Andrew Martin - gave it 3 stars (not sure out of how many). Enjoy

I used to buy Q magazine but it started to get on my nerves and act like a glossy NME.
Put it this way, they gave Thirsty Work the same 3 stars (out of 5 incidentally). Fools 🙄

Really strong album. The sessions sound like a band having fun and rediscovering themselves after 10 years of mediocrity. Take the inexplicable re-recording of Tommy off there and replace it with Mysteries from the ball and I think it’s in the top ten albums they recorded. Production is great. Riffs are strong. One man band, no problem, fame or money, nothing comes easy all sound good to me. And all the b sides are great 8/10 I had my own topic about this recently. Here is my alternative as to how I would have prefered it.

Here’s a thing th en pick 10 tracks from the rtyd sessions and make a 70s quality album Sorry matt, had to go with 12 like RAOTW album and didn't want to lose Nothing Comes Easy, but would be a great single B-Side or if pushed could lose Rock 'Til You Drop for it. For me One Man Band always stood out as the better album opener, just the way it builds at the start then hits you with that main riff, before the full band come in full beans, what Quo had done so well previously. 1. One Man Band 2. Like A Zombie 3. All We Really Wanna Do 4. Fakin' The Blues 5. No Problems 6. Rock 'Til You Drop 7. Good Sign 8. Warning Shot 9. Bring It On Home 10. Mysteries From the Ball 11. Heavy Daze 12. Let's Work Together To me that beats If You Can't Stand The Heat and is probably on par with albums like Whatever You Want, Rocking All Over The World, as well as likes of Just Supposin' & Never Too Late from early 80's.

I never thought of one man band as opener but that’s a great shout. Like backwater.
Ok I’ll have a pop. Looks like we are all discounting 4500times
1. One man band 2 like a zombie 3 Polly 4 heavy daze 5 fame or money 6 mysteries from the bal —— 7 good sign 8 nothing comes easy 9 warning shot 10 bring it on home 11 no problem 12 rtyd
I’d put that in the top 6 quo albums

I did have my own topic about this about a month ago.
The thing that bothered me as a fan at the time was there were plenty of original songs written to release RTYD as a quality album of original songs.
I'm not a lover of covers, and I felt they ruined the album, well for me anyway.
Here is my idea of how the album should have been, and I altered around the running sequence to how I prefered it.
See what you think:
