According to quogigography.net, Quo began playing Caroline at the start of their shows in Germany in early September 1977.

The gigs on the Rockin' tour in 1977 certainly began with Caroline. The first time that any of their gigs did. Exactly when in 1977 and at which gig I couldn't say, but Germany in the September certainly sounds like it could be right.
I didn't get to see them until the November and it opened the set then.

I thought in Germany they still used the Blue For You set and then in November at the beggining of the RAOTW tour they started using Caroline.

So when was the drone introduced? My earliest recollection is 1981,but I could be wrong.

I seem to recall Pip Williams posting on the old board about recording the drone in both ‘77 and then ‘88. The First Night Stand bootleg from the Australian ‘78 tour has the drone before Caroline, which can be found on YouTube.

And the Pictures drone when was the first time used? Perfect Remedy or 1990 tour perhaps?

I'm obviously mistaken but I was convinced at the time that, as the lights went down and before the band came on stage in 1986, the opening bars of Heartburn drifted out from the speakers. A sort of drone with that keyboard part. I always thought that. But absolutely no on else on the planet did so I put it out of my head

I saw the RAOTW tour at Trentham Gardens in Stoke, I'm sure Caroline wascthe opener, also vaguely recall there being a huge mirror behind the band so the crowd could see themselves.

I first heard the Drone and Caroline at Lewisham in 1977, and it was life changing moment, all that smoke, lights and music.

And the Pictures drone when was the first time used? Perfect Remedy or 1990 tour perhaps? Yep. Well, the first time the Pictures "riff" was used in a drone was the 1986 one for the Quo's Back tour, which was used up until the Ain't Complaining tour and then wasn't used again until its final airing on the Whatever You Want (The Greatest Hits...) tour. Even then it wasn't in constant use, as it was swapped out with Dance of The Knights. But, yes. The drone we all know and love was first used on November 30th, 1989, during the Perfect Remedy tour.

I know it's different when you're standing there but You Don't Own Me sounded sensational as did the segue from Backwater to Rockers Rollin'
