Quo only wrote 4 of these 12 songs. Of these, Bridges is based around a traditional jig, Ain't complainin is poor and dreamin is an embarrassment. You'll come round is the only good original , powered into the charts for two weeks by a fanbase temporarily experiencing excitement. Bridges is the only genuine hit with the public the band wrote Vol2 was worse than vol 1 by some distance, but at least you got vol1 free with it. 12gb 3 would have been difficult to market and easy to pan. I'm glad we were spared this, although Francis did talk about that it was under consideration. br] Personally I think a nice box set of all 3 would be nice, and a triple vinyl album I think would be an awesome thing in my collection. It would cleverly include all of Quo's top 20 hits in one place.

I know I sound like a cracked record, no pun intended, but to me the irony Quo did achieve those 12 more top 20 hits, and it didn't twinkle the ivories of the record company or managment is beyond me. It's not as if Quo are ever going to achieve 12 more top 20 hits. It's highly unlikely for them to have one more let alone 12 🙄 So let's celebrate those last 12 by rapping them up in an album.

Looking back at the Vertigo top ten hits before John was ousted, one could argue that this should be the real 12 Gold bars:
PAPER PLANE No. 8 1972 CAROLINE No. 5 1973 BREAK THE RULES No. 8 1974 DOWN DOWN No. 1 1975 ROLL OVER LAY DOWN (LIVE) No. 9 1975 RAIN No. 7 1976 WILD SIDE OF LIFE No. 9 1976 ROCKIN' ALL OVER THE WORLD No. 3 1977 WHATEVER YOU WANT No. 4 1979 WHAT YOU'RE PROPOSING No. 2 1980 SOMETHING 'BOUT YOU BABY I LIKE No. 9 1981 ROCK 'N' ROLL No. 8 1981

Let's not forget down the dustpipe Spent 17 weeks in the charts and peaked at number 12 I always took "gold" to mean "great" Pictures, Ice in the Sun, Dustpipe, In my Chair and Mean Girl were all missing on 12 Gold Bars because they were on Pye. This highlights why the whole 12 Gold Bars concept was starting to become obsolete once CD compilations came out with much more space on them, and licensing became easier. Rockin' All Over The Years already included the first two Pye hits, and the Whatever You Want - The Very Best Of 2CD, later reissued as Gold, covers almost everything from the first two 12 Gold Bars releases (only the live version of "Caroline" is missing) plus almost all the singles between then and 1998. The appeal of a CD that only includes material from ITAN onward was just not there, I think. At the very least, it would've needed an additional disc of the old classics in live versions to entice buyers (perhaps including the Roadhouse Medley, which covers quite a few hits and would fit the Anniversary Waltz theme). As a 3LP set, it might have some merit. But at the time, vinyl was hardly being considered as even worth doing. Ironic considering its revival since.

I would buy a 3 vinyl set in a heartbeat. I think it would just complete that reference to 3 chunks of top 20 singles, and draw that line in the sand.
