Yesterday's 'big' announcement is yet more evidence that the Status Quo management (presumably with the approval of the band) serves merely to squeeze every last drop out of the brand; it's not a band and hasn't been one since 1984 with the exception of the reunion tours.
This is the same management who tried to coax fans to seeing the unique experience of Quo's first ever performance without Rick Parfitt a couple of years ago. There is an uncanny resemblance to the man who tried to sell the Monorail to Springfield in the famous episode of The Simpsons. Unfortunately there will be some who will not see the blatantly transparent. This is yet another in the long line of dubious publicity/marketing stunts with which Quo's management are synonymous.
If Quo had any ounce of respectability and integrity they would bow out gracefully. However, this is a brand which should have been renamed 'Status Duo' back in 1986. The powers that be will have this all neatly mapped out:
2016 - Announce final electric tour. 2017 - Release Aquostic 2 and tour. 2017 - 'Plugging Back in Tour' (due to phenomenal demand)
Don't fall for it folks.

Unfortunately Rodders I believe all you have mentioned above. So sad to see our once great band going out with a whimper rather than a bang.

2017 - 'Plugging Back in Tour' (due to phenomenal demand)
Hi All, rodders, I to feel yours and others concerns this is a managed announcement, the only part that the quote above gives me any real concern is the bit saying "Phenomenal demand" If they did this they would be bloody hypocrites as there is a "Phenomenal demand" for the 'FF (Definitely)/CQ' to record new material at present instead of another bleeding 'Compilation' set like we just had or another 'Acoustic' album, also the same could be said for more reunion Tours/Gigs.
Why the hell the management never capitalised on the FF reunion is beyond me (Easy money) it was and still is a no brainer, well that's if Quo's management have brains which has become over the years more obvious they don't, by announcing they are unplugging the electric's it just really matches the management attitude towards the band as they unplugged years ago......

Geoff.
Simple. The FF are a rock band who play rock music. Porter wants Quo to distance themselves from the rock world as much as possible, which is why he promotes the band in the way he does. Everything has to be "fun" and "special". Well, it is... They are... Oops... There I go again! Let's face it, if Quo toured as normal this year, what would they have called the tour? There has to be a theme it seems, and Quo have run themselves into the ground over the past few years in this regard. Tax dodge films, Xmas tours (which were only done so Roy Wood could get another booking), the overuse of "Quo" in titles for official product. This shows nothing but a lack of imagination and contempt for the fans.

Its a joke. Sadly, the casual punter laps all this shit up and that is the demographic that has been targeted by the band and their management since 1986. Good luck to people who get sucked into yet another tacky publicity stunt.
Quo ended in 1984 and had a brief, albeit enriching, return in 2013 and 14 to great acclaim. That is how I will remember them and nothing can take that away. The rest is a joke band living off their past glories through and through.

The thing is though, CQ do not represent their own product since 1986 beyond the tiniest fraction of it (e.g the likes of CUOY and TO). That is the problem.
If CQ represented their own product, rather than insisting on being a re-constituted, updated happy clappy commercial version of the original band, then they have plenty enough of their own product at their disposal to be a good modern rock/pop band of their own merit.
On that basis, with removal of comparison between the two acts, I would find it possible to appreciate the best of two different eras of Quo. I might be an FF fan first and foremost, having first become a fan in the 70's - but I have still liked plenty of the back catalogue of the post 86 era. Its always subjective as to who likes what (or not at all) but the vast majority of the best of this material is completely and utterly wasted....
