Almost four years ago I did an album ranking based on the music. It's time for my ranking of the album sleeves, and I will be harsh and subjective, and surprising to some.
As with many other bands, Quo have some good covers and some bad ones, some truly bad. I will take the band logo and such into consideration, as well as the back covers. Also, if the cover reflects the music.
Here goes from top to bottom:
Hello! - Is there a better cover? Nuff Said
Hello! - Is there a better cover? Nuff Said
Blue For You - Indeed very blue and inviting
Whatever You Want - Love the oldies painting and the penguin with suspenders is a great touch
If You Can't Stand The Heat... - Cover is way better than the music
Perfect Remedy - This should have been the cover for a 70s Quo album
Just Supposin´- Dramatic cover, it reflects the nature of most of the songs really well
Piledriver - Although I would have loved to see the gorilla flipped with the band shot it works really well
In Search Of The Fourth Chord - Great colours and funny Indiana Jones pastiche
Back To Back - No, this isn't indicative of the music at all. The cover is sooooooooooooo much better
Quo - That four-headed creature freaks me out, yet so good
On The Level - The Ames room shot is a bit overexposed, but otherwise no problems
Never Too Late - The bad cut and paste job of the hand does not take away from the drama the cover presents us with
Heavy Traffic - Another fun cover. I sure hope Andy gets away unscathed
Thirsty Work - If only this had better music. The cover is terrific. Maybe not for Quo though
Rockin' All Over The World - I understand what they were going for but electric logo Quo > Nope!
Dog Of Two Head - I like the individual parts, the dog and the landscape, but together they look like something put together in haste
Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon - Raw, a bit amateurish, just like the album. Not bad at all
In The Army Now - Well made, but it's too dramatic for the music
Quid Pro Quo - I like the drawings but I would have liked them better in red on black
Aquostic 2 - The drawing of a band in action is so much better than the music, but again not for Quo
Backbone - A backbone on the cover of an album? Looks good but becomes stale and boring after a while
The Party Ain't Over Yet - Sure looks like the party IS over when your main guys in the band are turning their backs on us
Riffs - Red on black works but pretty boring still
Under The Influence - I saw a cover concept of a fork or whatever it was. Still better than this pub thing
Rock ´til You Drop - If we are to drop then drop the whole cover concept. Bad photo, bad typing for the title
Aquostic 1, Don't Stop, Famous In The Last Century, 1+9+8+2 and Ain't Complaining all get F:s for being such duds. Nothing more to add for these
