Has he ever explained why they said it was by Manston and James? I am fairly sure part of it is a nick from a classical piece, but I don't know what one that is either.

He's only mentioned it in recent years but Francis sounds irked these days that he and Bob never got the credit for Softer Ride, maybe especially as it's a fan favourite.
But they did used to share the compositions around in them days.
As for Manston & James, not sure we've ever had a full explanation for that.

Probably would have saved them from a lot of unnecessary aggro if all the songs had been credited to the whole band plus Bob
