Which is the prefered version of Tommy's in love or Tommy.
Not sure why Quo re-recorded Tommy's in love and re-named it Tommy, in fact I don't know why they re-recorded it at all so soon after the original version.
I think Tommy is slightly heavier, but its a puzzle why Quo felt the need to re-record it.
Any thoughts?

This would be one of Rossi's 'songs' that he felt best represented himself as a songwriter and i guess he wanted the world to hear it. As no-one bought PR no-one heard it the first time around and he duly put it out again on an album he knew would do much better due to the massive promo campaign it had around the 4-gigs-in-a-day live event. At a guess!

At a guess! That's a fair point. I suppose in hindsight Rossi would have prefered it was released as a single. Sounds silly to say but I think it stood a better chance of being a hit in 89 compared to Not at all or Little dreamer, I thought they were probably the worst choices of singles ever! I actually prefered The way I am.

You're not asking us to listen to both songs again, do you.

I remember an interview somewhere, with someone (Rhino I think), who said they recorded it twice because they didn't get it right the first time round. Whether that's true or he was just being diplomatically ironic, I don't know. It's not a style of song that I like and harks back to the days of The Platters and various crooners. I can hear someone like Pat Boone singing it with a full orchestra When Francis really likes a song, he tends to play it as a solo artist, as a sort of stick his tongue out thing. Like Margie or Tongue Tied. He hasn't with Tommy.

The song is not even close to be the worst song on Perfect Remedy, nor the best. The problem is they recorded it twice, otherwise I think it would pass almost unnoticed as a filler track on a bland album.
I'm glad they didn't re-recorded Adress Book or 1000 Years.

Pointless exercise to record it, let alone re record it, summed up that feeling that (as quoted by Alan during an Interview) that Francis (and to a far lesser extent Rick) were using the Quo name to release solo orientated stuff, would have to agree with Alan with a fair chunk of the fodder that was put out in the late 80's/early 90's, but in fairness to Francis, with Rick not overly contributing much on the writing side, he was under pressure to deliver quantity over quality to complete albums

The rtyd version is far better , but for this fan still unlistenable as it’s so far away from what I want from Quo
To be fair I do like the playout lead break on the rtyd version
If this or address book had been a single it would have made me ill
They are lucky we care/d so much !
