"When Quo were invited to mime to Marguerita Time on Top Of The Pops, Lancaster stayed at home in Sydney. Jim Lea from Slade stepped in to deputise. For another TV show a cardboard cutout of Lancaster was used."
I assume the cardboard cutout being referenced is the puppet from the RAOTW video? As for Marguerita Time, yes Jim Lea did deputise when Lancaster wasn't there. But clearly the reason he wasn't there had nothing to do with it being Marguerita Time, going by the fact a couple of weeks earlier he appeared on the show miming to that track.

The infamous PLC recording mentioned I really do wonder if they ever existed Cheers They're basically a fairy tale. Ex members of Quo or people that have been in the Quo camp at some point like to make out they have more than they do

The cardboard cut out was used for Mess of Blues video. Alan never “refused” to promote Marguerita time he wasn’t available for some of the promotion as was in Australia as his wife had given birth around that time. As above says he did appear on one show with the band miming to the song. Regarding the PLC recordings someone interviewed John Coghlan and asked him about this and said he hadn’t played on any new records or wasn’t aware of them apparently???

Alan wasnt even aware that Tokyo Quo was recorded and thought it was a bootleg when it was mentioned to him prior to his death

Incorrect, there's no cardboard cut out in A Mess Of Blues.

Jim Lea appeared on the first episode of the year (1984) - would make sense Alan was still enjoying a sunny Christmas season in Oz. Why go back?

The PLC recordings are 8 songs that equal if not outshine anything they recorded from 1972 to 1975. They were recorded using the identical technology that was used on Piledriver, Hello and Quo.
Also recorded was a triple concept album that tells the story of the man who was abandoned in Backwater Junction. The demo's were lost when they were sent to ARSIS studios for additional work to the guitar parts.
There is song which is similar to Lennon's "How Do You Sleep", a thinly disguised attack on Paul McCartney. The song is called "You Stole My Band You Fcukin' Wanka" and is believed to be directed at a current member of the band.

I was thinking about this yesterday for no reason at all. Basically, Francis got tired of working with Alan, wanted to do his own thing, so he left the band. BUT being quite canny, and possibly also having persons whispering in his ear, he left the band WHILE TAKING IT WITH HIM!
The reason he could hang onto it was because the record company would not countenance a version of Quo without Francis in it. You can see why. He was the face and voice of the band since quite early in their career. Neither Rick nor Alan were going to be able to replicate that, as was demonstrated later.
The monster irony of all this is that it's unlilkely that Francis could have built up a similar career by himself, either.
Alan's mistake was thinking there was justice in this world. Fierce lads like him sometimes make that mistake. He absolutely did not see it coming! RIP Alan, I hope you had some good times making music with other people in the later years, and it was so good to see you again at the Reunions.
