Hi all.
I wanted to ask if anyone had any memories of the 'Under The Influence' Tour from 1999, the winter one as opposed to 'The Pub Tour'.
Looking at setlist.fm this seems like a really interesting time for the band when it comes to the set. For a couple of shows on this tour, "Twenty Wild Horses" opens the show and there are regularly three or four tracks from 'Under The Influence' in the show. At one show it seems "Something Bout You Baby I Like" closes the main set after "Rockin..."
Some shows feature "Roadhouse Blues' in the encore. Did this include the jig I wonder?
"Pictures of Matchstick Men" is a standalone track in the encore, I can't think of another tour where this was the case (away from acoustic).
At some shows "Forty-Five Hundred Times" is followed by "Roll Over Lay Down", a couple of times by "Junior's Wailing"...
It just seems like an interesting show at this point. Are there any bootlegs or recordings from this period that are known? I'd love to hear one.
Thanks.

It was a pretty short UK Winter tour as the band were committed to their long run of European "Night of the Proms" gigs during their usual November/December slot. You can find some details of the UK UTI gigs on my website, www.leehawkins.com/NoFrames/Reviews/oct99.htm. There are certainly bootlegs around, I have the Nottingham and Birmingham shows from this tour.

The main thing I remember from back then was a preview of the new album over the speakers the year before. It wasn't announced or anything, it was just played and I suddenly realised it was Quo. Got to as far as Little White Lies before the lights went out and the band came on.
I can recall little about the set in 1999 other than the fact that they played Twenty Wild Horses and the title track. I know Shine On was in the set, but it had gone by the time I saw them.

My main memory of the tour was the move in Glasgow from the standing Hall 4 of the SECC to the all seated Armadillo next door. Being depressed as I sat upstairs looking down on the band having a great time running around stage as I was stuck in place at my seat. The previous years I had such a good time down the front jumping in unison with the rest of the crowd, such that I was on a complete downer when I left the gig. The following year I missed the winter tour for the first time since I started going to see them in 1992, as just hadn't enjoyed the '99 gig.

I remember Shine on been in the set, early in the UK tour at Manchester. It had been dropped by Sheffield. Shame as it was brilliant live.

I've got a remastered copy of the Nottingham Royal Concert Hall show, 4th October 1999. I need to dig it out at some point

Thanks for all the replies and observations and I think "Shine On" sounds great live. I also think it's interesting that the main single from this album, which opened every show of the Pub Tour, wasn't played at all in these shows. From a couple of versions on YouTube it sounds like it would work well live, so this feels like a weird decision...

I went to see them at Brighton I think.
They played keep em coming, TWH, under the influence
It was around this time they stared playing a proper vinyl inspired version of Roadhouse too. They did the three part harmony in the middle just like Piledriver and it sounded great. They also started playing the final verse with an A chord and a B chord rather than straight on E which again sounded good.

Southport. Couldn't find my tickets and got very stressed. Arrived just as the drone started and ran to the front. Southport stayed seated, other than a little ripple at the front the crowd was dead.
Rick and Francis worked the crowd very hard and by about an hour in all were stood. It was great being up to close to the band in a small place. Good gig, a bit clean, I was taken about the distance here from the glory days
A few days later in Liverpool and you wouldn't believe it was the same tour. Great crowd, great atmosphere, great sound, great gig, same songs
Very glad I did both dates

The Way It Goes is my favourite track on the album so I agree it's strange that it wasn't in the set for the proper album tour.
