I'm not sure how they would measure it 11 years on.
Downloads and streaming have changed the landscape in terms of 'singles'. The Stones were no.1 in the iTunes 'top songs' chart about a week ago. They're not even in the top 10 now and probably weren't the day after!
Some of the comments underneath are a bit silly. One even saying "The Beatles were overrated, no talent hype". Another had never heard of Take That.
Although it doesn't actually say, I'm assuming this is based on the UK singles chart only. Can't see Quo or Madness being in there otherwise.

Yes it's UK only
From the 70's Quo come 4th, which is brilliant.
12 million single sales. Alan said 40m albums upto 12gb vol 2.
Let's say 15 million since
Difficult to see where "100 million units sold" came from. That said, it's impossible to know how many singles were sold outside the uk

Quite interesting that Shakin' Stevens hasn't made the list. I've read a few times that he was the highest selling singles artist in the UK during the 80's.

Take out bohemian rhapsody and I think Quo would be higher than Queen

Take out bohemian rhapsody and I think Quo would be higher than Queen Not sure about that, mate. They had four no.1's (including Under Pressure with Bowie) and numerous top 5's. They were still selling singles well into the 90's and beyond, even after Freddie's passing. Outside of the Man U nonsense, Quo have barely charted in the top 20 since Anniversary Waltz. I think Jam Side Down might be the only one, although that's just off the top of my head. Can't remember where I Didn't Mean It got to. The Stones is an interesting inclusion. Their last really big hit was Start Me Up way back in 1981 (apart from Angry) so it shows when most of their sales happened.

Think that was the last of them

A shame there are no similar lists for 70's album sales, at least not that I can find . I don't think Quo would feature in the top ten. 12GB the top seller?

Quite interesting that Shakin' Stevens hasn't made the list. I've read a few times that he was the highest selling singles artist in the UK during the 80's. List only includes groups only. No solo artists.
