I also noticed I got a tiny, smudgy but still recognisable Saturn and rings which was just up and to the right of the moon.

It was a very big, very bright moon. Pretty much the normal colour for us, although I read it was all manner of different shades depending on where you were in the world. As for Saturn, you sure? I'm almost certain I rescued one of those from my glass of shiraz last night

Wow, you really did see Saturn.
Not down here, far too much light pollution.
Great to see your pics.

Fantastic pic of Saturn. Looked at the moon last night with my own eyes. I didn't realise I'd got it until I was cropping my moon photo. Next clear night I'm going to try with tripod and take a few dozen shots to merge together and see how it looks.

btw - are the night skies even clearer in Perthshire, ie out of a city? That must be good too. I still remember my trip to Skye and being blown away by the night sky that I couldn't see in London.

They will be if he's in the countryside. Skye is a different ball game. It's quite sparsely populated, despite it's size, so there are much fewer streetlights, for example. Problem is, every time I go there, it's pi$$ing down When I lived in North Wales, I noticed the stars were very visible. It's something you never take for granted when you come from the city.

Yes, we're in a very low light pollution area. We moved in April so nights were getting shorter but on clear nights it was still a starry blanket!
