I found that quite insightful and surprised I haven't heard that interview ever before. Thanks for posting.
When you hear Rick talk about EOTR and returning with In the Army and a new band, you can understand the position they were in and why they went with it. And yes, it mostly boiled down to drugs and the Frame/Nuff situation. We know that clearly but it's just a shame the return happened with an album of poor, watered down material and an 180 degree turnaround on image. I guess it worked and kept the Quo name alive but I for one can never fathom why Rick and Francis thought such terrible material was acceptable - time and time again.
Anyway, great to hear Rick openly talk about this era.

Jim wasn’t “phoned up” to appear on top of the pops with them And Slade were on the same programme(performing “My oh my”?) that week so whoever in Quo just knocked on their dressing room draw to ask him if he would like to appear with them.
