And this is the Liverpool band Spider, with their single (I think I have a copy of this somewhere) 'Why D'ya Lie To Me'.

Did Chuck Berry introduce the popular shuffle rhythm with 'No Particular Place To Go' in 1964? Not sure if there are any shuffle hits older than that (Blueberry Hill??), or perhaps someone like Howlin' Wolf or Muddy Waters might have introduced it earlier.
Anyway, here's Chuck, doing his thang...

Rory Gallagher didn't venture down the shuffle road too often but, nonetheless, here's a cool offering from 1976's Calling Card album, 'Secret Agent'.

I remember a song called Hands Off from the Reading '73 album. I only bought it (on 8-track cartridge ) to get the Quo track but liking Rory's song was a bonus. Think that was a bit of a shuffle.

Good call Mort. Missed 'Hands Off' in my 'research'!!! It's a cracker too!

Off on a tangent for a sec, but it's amazing the amount of live footage of Rory that's out there, right back to 1968 and loads of stuff in the 70's and 80's too. Where were the cameras when Quo showed up throughout those years. Weird! Rant now over and thank you.

The Blues Band were purveyors of many fine shuffle tunes over the years, with perhaps half their albums and live shows made up of shuffle songs. Singer Paul Jones was previously lead vocalist with Manfred Mann in their 60s heyday. This track 'Boom Boom (Out Go The Lights)' is from 1979.

That Spider track really took me back. This is the one that started it all for them (and me). If anyone ever wonders why Quo fans took to them (as if they would), just watch and listen to this....

Ritchie Blackmore playing a shuffle! Who'd have thought it? Nice one Whoppa!
Coincidentally, DP's previous single 'Black Night' is close to being a shuffle as well. Though listening to it again, it's more a riff based song than a straight shuffle. But what do I know!

The Who had tried it and Dave Edmunds.

Dave Edmunds had a few shuffles up his musical sleeve throughout his career, not least of which was his 1980 Top 30 hit, 'Singin the Blues'.

Forgot about this one. Turned up as a track on a giveaway 7" single with the album but I think it's originally from the Jinx sessions a few years before. An old Sonny Boy Williamson song. Covered in Rory's inimitable way

Jeff Healey had a bit of shuffle going on with this beauty.
