It's a very listenable album to me. Not a stack of blockbusters, but two classic singles and a bunch of good solid often slightly off the wall rockers. I also like the way a lot of them are story songs about the rock life or quirky lyrics.
" Leave out the back way Not the way that I came in because it seems like the logical way, at the time. "
I love that.

IMO, the high water mark of everything the band did after Live with Alan still in the band. Not sure they ever surpassed it, but RTYD and ISOTFC probably came close. The latter is, as somebody mentioned on one of the forums many years ago, sonically not too far away from WYW despite the different line-up.

To me it's on a par with their classic period; as a very young fan, I was 12 at the time, I didn't even know there was a classic period for Quo. (IYCSTH was a downer apart from the excellent artwork.) Looking back for me they never reached that level again, only NTL and Supposin' came close.

LOVE this album. Not a track that I skip. I’ll probably get shot down for this but it’s my favorite FF album. That outro on Living on as island always was and always will be sublime.

You won't get shot down, I'm clearly in a small minority. Btw I don't dislike any of it, I just don't think there's any classics there bar the singles Lots of truth to the "depends when you heard it" view.

This is probably in my top 5 great production and everything pretty high in the mix. I don’t know why the American version of the album was tinkered with as it doesn’t really add anything to the uk one. Maybe apart from a few extended fade outs but chopping some of the intros was ill advised. I think maybe Bad company didn’t see the day of light as pip williams and friend wrote the track and could have been a royalty issue? It probably would have made a good closing track if Breaking away had not come into the equation. For some reason Alan got a credit on the 2001 archive boxset which was an error.

I always felt that Whatever You Want would be great for a TV advert, but no-one ever picked up on it.

Love this album. Up there with the classics for me. Less frantic, more than half of the songs have a slower tempo. Plenty of riffs. High Flyers and Runaway are my least favourites, but I don't skip them. Never tire of this album.

Totally agree, ISOTFC sounds like it is cut from the same cloth as WYW. You're both mad I revisited ISOTFC recently and it really does its own thing. But it's still closer to WYW than all the other albums that Pip was involved in between those two albums. This is probably in my top 5 great production and everything pretty high in the mix. I don’t know why the American version of the album was tinkered with as it doesn’t really add anything to the uk one. Maybe apart from a few extended fade outs but chopping some of the intros was ill advised. It probably would have made a good closing track if Breaking away had not come into the equation. For some reason Alan got a credit on the 2001 archive boxset which was an error. Bad Company is a good song - I might've replaced High Flyer with it. But yeah, they probably wanted to get evenly distributed royalties, and Pip getting a cut of the album royalties already happened twice before. Got to say that for all the flack Pip got and still gets, the songs he co-wrote were almost all high quality.
