A musician friend on FB posted this tribute to someone I'd never heard of but he's had a fascinating career in the early LA scene.

And, strangely, after reading the article, I'm not quite sure what he actually did

Apart from play with a few luminaries. What is a 'sideman'? Is that American for session player?
