The more I hear the single played, among compilations etc..in hindsight I think they got it right with the mix for the Single. If I was a neutral It’s very radio friendly and pitches to a much wider audience. I think that is why it is now considered a classic and why it opened live aid as much as the band. With a much heavier guitar mix ( which would have suited us the FF fans ) I don’t think it would have had that much wider appeal as it has done. I am not talking about the full album. Just the way they pitched the single. I know they were mainly targeting America but it worked for the rest of the world.

I think they got it bang on with the mix of the single ,the popularity of that song is quite incredible and still remains to today. My 14 yr old daughter came from school recently saying they had played RAOTW at dance lessons and they were all bopping about to it.It’s now on her play list along with WYW. ( and other YouTuber artists I have never heard of)
Downside is its the only Quo song that’s ever gets played anywhere these days but ones better than nothing I suppose. Always wondered what John Fogerty thought of Quo version ,never seen this mentioned anywhere ,maybe half annoyed cos it’s better than original .

I loved it when I first heard it, bearing in mind it was on a vinyl single and played on 70's Ferguson tech, I didn't think much of Wild Side Of Life after Mystery Song brought the curtain down on Blue For You.

I mean..Frank Sinatra was sort of defined by My Way, Pavarotti by Nessun Dorma so what if they didn't write it

Although it breaks my heart to say it, but Quo got it bang on with the release of the single. I have to say (please dont give me grief) when it was released, I absolutely loved it, not only was it a good single, it also gave my beloved Quo huge exposure on the TV, radio and press. Also a great promo, but sadly without The Big Man himself, Nuff. Obviously now I am not a fan of it due to it being over played and the association people have with it with Quo disregarding the 'classic' stuff from the Frantic Four era. Also, I wasn't a huge fan of the album it came from. I think also many Quo fans lost interest due to its commercialisation and followed other bands and music, New Wave, New Wave Of Heavy Metal etc. Also I have not heard anything from John Fogerty regarding the success of the song he penned. Odd

Odd Quo wanted to perform it with him at Montreux in 2009 when they were on the same bill He didn’t want to know. in fact one of hos crew said to Quo’s PA that he had written their hit ( singular) Quick as a flash she replied that Quo had made him all his money then!!!

To be fair I don’t think RAOTW made John fogerty all his money. He has had 5 US singles at number 2 and I don’t think RAOTW has made him as much revenue as ‘ Bad Moon Rising ‘ Number 1 in the UK & 2 in the US and film rights from American Werewolf. ‘ Proud Mary ‘ must have made him piles of money over the years as well. Although as Quo fans we would like to think so.

My memories of the single when it came out (memories which are fading fast by the way ) are that I wasn't mad on it, especially after what I saw as a weak single in Wild Side Of Life, but it was OK. Actually, my abiding memory is being in a pub in Edinburgh and continually sticking the B-side on the jukebox. Let's face it, Quo have had bigger hits both before and after its release but they will forever be associated with the song because of Live Aid. Until that point, they didn't play it on every light entertainment/daytime TV show they appeared on. But, as Francis says in his recent book, if they'd told him at the start the band would have a signature song that they would forever be associated with and that everyone knew, he'd have been delighted. So, yes, they got it right. Its alright for him. At every night out I've been at in the last 30 odd years, I've had to escape to the bar/toilet/taxi rank when I hear the words " and this one's a request for...."

As a young teenager at the time of release I loved it. I remember been at a disco and the DJ was struggling for numbers on the dance floor, it was crammed with little rockers when RAOTW came on ✌️
