The tribute concert at Wembley for Taylor Hawkins was really enjoyable. It was great to see lots of big names showing their respect. It made me quite sad, however, to think that Quo did nothing similar for Rick Parfitt. What a shame. Even a subtle reference at gigs. I always thought something like a video clip of Rick playing intro to Caroline would have been a nice intro to shows. The rolling stones have a very fitting tribute at the start of their shows for Charlie. Quo, however, nothing. Maybe it is just nature of band. The fan club convention thankfully pays a great deal of respect to all Quo members, both past and present, well done to the organisers.

Frame was the leader of the band, more so after the reformation, and I wonder if he felt he was carrying Rick, maybe resenting slightly the adulation Rick got from fans. We also know his views on 'nostalgia', misplaced as they are. Make no mistake, the whole Taylor gig happened because you had the driving force that is Dave Grohl making it happen. If Frame had made a few calls then who knows. I don't think he did. All speculation, not personally criticising Francis as only he truly knows what went on in that band latterly and what caused the relationship breakdown. But yes, a wee acknowledgement in the gigs of Rick, and of course Alan, if only for the fans.

Maybe Francis and Simon don't get on well with other artists?...

Maybe Francis and Simon don't get on well with other artists?... I can think of very very few musicians who would actually call Francis a friend, he's always been aloof and satisfied with acquaintances. As for Porter he's mostly regarded as a complete and utter ****. As for the possibility of a tribute concert, it was much discussed on here at the time but when he died things were pretty distant between Francis and Rick. Francis had come up with the whole Aquostic project solely as a way to enable a rapidly ailing Rick to continue live work but Rick threw it back in his face and rubbished the concept. Sadly for decades Rick had been Rick's own worst enemy. He loved the rock star image and the notoriety and he just couldn't admit to himself that his voice and especially his health were failing fast. I remember that last time I met Rick and I was shocked at how ill, gaunt and almost skeletal he looked.

Thanks for your post @bluehighway, I couldn't like it because it is so sad to read. But it also make sense of what we've heard from others including Francis himself about their relationship. In those circumstances, I can understand why there were no on stage tributes from Francis and the band. I'm not saying this was the right decision but I can see why he would find it so hard to do.

Wish management hadn't announced there would be one, then silence
You can only assume from that that mgmt assumed there would be one, only for Francis not to want to
Brian May would have taken part, that itself would have guarenteed a good night

Brian May & Roger? Midge Ure Geldof Def Leppard Spandau Ballet The Who Francis, Alan, John. Who else would turn out?

As has been said, the wheels had slowly been coming off in terms of Rick's and Rossi's relationship. Though I have sensed over the years that Rossi deals with death in ways that may seem strange to many but how he goes about his life. He can come across as matter of fact and possibly uncaring, but life has to go on for him and nothing will bring back loved ones. Though he does seem to ponder the passing of time and the inevitable in lyrics, 'Tongue Tied' for instance.
As for who might have been at an 'in memory' gig...
Fairly sure Paul Weller would have shown up and of course Jackie Lynton. Joe Brown would possibly have done a turn. I think the bassist in Muse, Chris Wolstenholme has the connection with Quo.

A Rick tribute would have been the correct thing to do. Yes, I agree many of the above names mentioned would have been honoured to play. Quo were a band loved my many in the Hard Rock/Metal circles, especially as Quo were to many an influence on their respected careers. If there was such an event, Wembley stadium would have been too big, maybe the Hammy or possibly the O2 would have been suitable. Also wasnt there a mention of a Crowdfunded statue in Woking for the great man? Well that's gone quiet. Anyway back on the original subject, I enjoyed what I saw of the Taylor Hawkins concert, especially Brian Johnson and Lars Ulrich banging out the AC/DC stuff.
