I'll have another look, allyp . Whoever it is, they're hard to make out. 👍 I think allyp is right, looks very much like Paxo.

Thanks for this thread. I don't know that album particularly well and never heard this track until today. I really enjoyed it. And as with TCTTC - I imagine it would have been a pop hit if not recorded by Quo. Fretbuzzz - yes, it is a bit like There She Goes on the chorus. That was from 1988! I hadn't realised it was so old. And I can see why LWL was respected by musicians at the time. Rick clearly had a talent for ballads and melody. I think I've heard Tommy once and never again. Here's the official remix of LWL for anyone whose not heard it before. Thanks for the re-mix CG. I possibly didn't word that quite right as I was referring to 'There She Goes' as being liked by well known musos. Though I'm fairly sure Terry Wogan said he loved Little White Lies and had been plugging it on Radio 2! Poor Wogan, he got a bit of a mauling from Parfitt and Rossi after the below par interview that they did on The Wogan TV show. Saying he had his mic higher than theirs and how he didn't allow them to do their usual comedy duo performance. At the time I probably thought poor Rossi and Parfitt but having now seen it in later times I just think they just gave a naff interview on that occasion and poor Wogan! I'm sure Rick didn't deliberately set out with any ideas of plagiarism with 'There She Goes' but I'm fairly sure the song must have been in his head sublimely!

Yes indeed, Terry gave it a regular spin all throughout the 2000s

I love it. These is one of those examples of starting with acoustic guitars and slow-tempo, but, somehow I stick with it. For example, the other Parfitt-penned from UTI, Little Me And You, don't like it. Always skip it.
Is there any explanation of why this song is sung by Francis and not Rick? (except the bridge). Maybe they know it would be possibly a single?

Status Quo message board in defence of a 90's Quo track shock. More at 11. I know, I know, I know. Are we more accepting of some of this material as we age? There must be a scientific answer to it as there is certainly no logical one?? But...as always I have to give credit when credit is due. I think this is a wonderfully crafted, delightful pop number that has numerous qualities as previous stated (great balance of acoustic and electric guitar sound, dead catchy chorus, excellent harmonies, great bridge etc..). Do I like it as a Quo number? Not much at all, but as a song that should have been picked up by another artist, more aligned to this style, did it have the merits to be a hit? Absolutely. Although a devout, hardcore rock n blues fan of Quo, I never minded the pop sensibilities of some of their tracks in the latter 70's and 80's. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. From BTB onwards it never bloody worked. It was all just awful material until UTI showed some glimpses of promise. Ok back to 4500 Times now..

Genuinely... I read it in FTMO, I've read it through various forums but... Where is everyone getting The La's from? I honestly don't hear it! I do that song in my cover set and I've never heard any resemblance... Am I that thick?

"WHY WHY WHY" -> "THERE SHE GOES" I didn't notice it until I read this thread now, but it was pretty clear after that. Anyway, a nice track. Seems like a 60s throwback to me. The middle eight and ending are excellent. I love it. These is one of those examples of starting with acoustic guitars and slow-tempo, but, somehow I stick with it. Whereas, I think Little White Lies is OK bordering on pretty good. So I don't really go with the comparison myself. 3 words using a similar scale? Hardly plagiarism

It's one of their songs reverting to the early 1960s. My hindbrain can hear bits of 3 maybe 4 ancient hits in there somewhere (don't ask me which ones). As a radio track I would rate it "harmless but boring." Not meaning to be mean. "Boring" means "time that one dropped out of the chart ASAP and made room for something which will better stand up to repeating several times an hour IMO." Compared to "Little Me and You" it's a masterpiece ...

I've seen that Sesame Street comparison before. Subliminally entering Rhino's head while bringing up Freddie, Max and Mae and staying there Well, that and The Comic Strip

It’s literally just the one line : “why why why “ sounds like “there she goes “ I was expecting it to be more than that at first when I first heard it mentioned ! There is "more than that" to my way of thinking Cammy, which to be fair could be my problem. Though frozenhero 'got it' and its also about the general vibe and phrasing as well as the frequently repeated one line. The 60s style jangly guitar sounds and arpeggios in the intros and under-pinning both songs hail from The Byrds family tree I would think. I wasn't suggesting there should be a Court case about it anytime soon, but Rick may have subconsciously absorbed 'There She Goes' into his musical head. I'm fairly sure the song has found it's way into background TV and radio stuff over the years. I'm not completely convinced that the song suited Quo really as long past their psychedelic era as tqontq alluded to and quite middle of the road. It's a nice song as others have said. Unlikely to get punters pouring over the lyrics the way The La's lyrics have been analysed to death. Incidentally, The La's nicked the basis of their song from The Velvet Underground's 60s song 'There She Goes Again'. UTI was 1999 wasn't it? The band 'Sixpence None The Richer' recorded a cover of 'There She Goes' in 1999. Can't remember exactly the year now but would guess in the 90s when I was reading a copy of Guitarist magazine (no, it didn't take me a year to read it!...honest) A writer was bemoaning the proliferation of jangly guitar bands, all sounding the same and using the open D chord in various jangly ways and he wasn't happy about that for some reason. If my band at one time had put 'There She Goes' and 'Little White Lies' in our set, I wouldn't have been able to resist switching the lyrics around and mixing n' matching the two. Far too tempting. freewilly...of course you're not thick, far from it, you just need a hearing test I jest of course before any necks need winding in! By the way, good to see that you and matt have made up and jolly good pals again. You two were like the Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte of the Quo message board...such passion guys! It was good fun, cheers chaps.
