On this day in 1987 U2 released what is possibly their definitive album, The Joshua Tree (some may argue Achtung Baby). Never a big fan but can appreciate some of their music.

Rab C Bono Not sure about that jumper The Hedge is sporting I wouldn't argue that The Joshua Tree defined them. It probably did. My own personal favourite is Pop. Not a skip track on it. I suppose many people are largely influenced by the fact that Bono seems a bit of a prat. Whether he is or not, I have no idea. But U2's music for me has been pretty much timeless and fashion free since The Joshua Tree. Which makes them always relevant. Whatever that means

Achtung Baby and the tour that proceeded it, Zoo TV, will never be beaten IMO. A great piece of art followed by a tour that introduced so many different facets to a live environment, that the Rolling Stones even learned from. I love The Joshua Tree too. Was lucky to see them play it in it's entirety a few years back. However, this was one of my best live experiences of the band. No big screens, lights, bells and whistles, just balls to the wall rock n roll! I'm a bit of a fan...
