So that's why nobody went to see Gillan ...

Shall we all go! In one of these.
Oops, you mean't a time machine. The opening makes me think of whooshing back in time.

I've got two of these programmes for some reason. No idea why. Must have bought one for someone else and kept it or it's my sister's. The t-shirt was exactly the same but that's long gone. I've posted many times on various forums how much I didn't really enjoy the day. For various reasons. Not least of which because the band were poor and sounded under-rehearsed. But 40 years to the day? Scarcely believable that. We got home on the Sunday morning. Straight to bed. Hadn't slept in about 48 hours. And my perm was all tangled. Didn't take my Afro comb

I was there, didn't buy the T-shirt, though still have the programme I think.
Have two enduring memories of the day... Janick Gers from Gillan climbing the scaffolding and the clumps of grass and mud flying through the air.
My expectations were high after attending the multiple nights with Quo at Hammersmith but I felt disconnected somehow with Quo at Donington that day. Perhaps it did matter where you were situated in the crowd, as not the first time I 've heard that it wasn't so bad down at the front.
I remember buying Kerrang afterwards and whoever it was doing the review of Donington had been mocking Rossi's attempts at guitar virtuosity. I think he was referring to the part in the set when Rossi would step out and start doing the high pick/thumb squeals.

Maybe that helped create that disconnect. However, I've also never seen anyone who was there post how blinding a gig it was. Almost all comments are usually a bit negative. The chucking of beer glasses full of pi$$ didn't make a dull, wet day any better either

Those last two can't have been far from where I was standing, Quoincidence. Quite far back but in the middle. No big screens in those days. Mind you, there weren't any at Milton Keynes either, although Bowie had them there the year before.
