Steve Gibbons was born in Birmingham on 13th July 1941 and reaches the grand old age of 81 today. To many casual punters he was a one-hit wonder, with a cover of Chuck Berry's 'Tulane' reaching no. 12 in 1977, but he's had a wide and varied career, heading several bands and continues to sing and play guitar to this day. Instead of playing 'Tulane' I've plumped for a follow-up single 'Eddy Vortex', which made an appearance on Top of the Pops in April 1978 (and only made 56 in the charts). Not unlike a Dave Edmunds song in style!

I saw Steve Gibbons once but I can't really remember much about it. He supported Be Bop Deluxe back in the late 70's. Maybe even around the time of Tulane. I don't recall that follow up single. It is very Dave Edmunds/rockabilly-like. 81 though!

Dan Smith, lead singer with London band Bastille, was born on 14th July 1986 and is 36 today. They released this song in 2013 which became a huge hit throughout Europe, Australia and the US. And, as an old rock dinosaur, I like it a lot!
And, coincidentally, Dan's birthday, happens to fall on..........Bastille Day!

Lots of musicians sharing a birthday today, the 15th July: Ronald Binge (1910-1979, composer of 'Elizabethan Serenade'), Linda Ronstadt (1946), Trevor Horn (1949, 'Video Killed the Radio Star'), Johnny Thunders (1952, New York Dolls) and Ian Curtis (1956-1980, Joy Division). I'm picking a 1976 hit single, a cover of Buddy Holly's song 'That'll be the Day' and sung by Linda Ronstadt, to mark her 76th birthday today.

Stewart Copeland, Washington DC born drummer with The Police, was born on 16th July 1952 and is celebrating his 70th birthday today. Co-founder of the band with Gordon Sumner in 1977, this 1979 clip is from the OGWT, and shows the unique qualities of his drumming, which were instrumental to The Police sound.

I didn't mind Curved Air when I was a teenager (apart from the obvious attractions ). They had a guitarist in 1976 called Mick Jacques who I really liked. Never saw them live though.

Sweet's drummer Mick Tucker would have been 75 today, the 17th July, while Geezer Butler, Sabbath's bassist is another of the 49ers, 73 today. Meanwhile, Spencer Davis was born on 17th July 1939 and only passed away two years ago. Here he is doing lead vocals on a German music show 'Beat Beat Beat' in 1966. And he can speak some German too, who knew! Maybe Tony can give us a quick translation on what's been said.

It's a drummers birthday bonanza today, the 18th July, with no less than four drummers celebrating their birthday; Golden Earring's Cesar Zuiderwijk is 74, XTC's Terry Chambers is 67, The Alarm's Nigel Twist is 64 and founder member of the Red Hot Chilli Pepper's, Jack Irons, is 60 today. But we go back Cesar Zuiderwijk and here he is with that memorable rolling shuffle pattern on their most well-known tune, from 1973 - 'Radar Love'.
(Watch out for Cesar's famous 'launch' at the end!!)

Brian May was born on 19th July 1947, making him 75 today. Here he is in 1993, giving an outing to one of his earlier songs, 'Now I'm Here', which was off the album 'Sheer Heart Attack' and released as Queen's 5th single in 1975. Cozy Powell is banging the drums behind him!

But I doubt you'll find a video of me on YouTube
