I'm working from memory hear but in 1971, the music papers only published the weekly top 30; singles and albums. Although the music business publications may have gone a bit further, I don't know. But as far as the public were concerned, it was the top 30. The top 40, as it became known, was quite a few years later. No idea why it changed. Or precisely when. But Top of the Pops suddenly extended their charts by 10 at some point. Quo were still building a following via the live circuit in 1971 and hadn't had a hit single since In My Chair, so I can't see how the Dog was ever going to chart. Vertigo and Paper Plane changed everything. As for the Na Na Na thing, you do wonder why they didn't just stick Tune To The Music on there. Mean Girl was never a single until after they'd moved away from PYE. Shifting Sands was the song that should have been on The Dog.Tune To The Music I really do love, but it's sonically different, it would have to have been a different recording, in my opinion, of course. I read somewhere The Dog made No:12 in Norway or Sweden (or another Scandinavian country). Excellent point 👍 I'd temporarily forgotten about that one. I wonder if Swedish Radio Sessions had an impact? I dare say it was recorded and released there for a reason.

Something always baffled me about DOTH is the fact Na Na Na was repeated on this album, all be it shorter versions each time. I have never seen this on an album before from any artists. Oasis. The Swamp Song on Morning Glory

Don't know about the Dog album charting or not charting and reasons for it, but it's still class regardless, Mean Girl, Railroad, Umleitung, Something's Going on in My Head etc. I think I remember talking on the old board that after Down Down and On The Level had both reached #1, or maybe this was just on the back of the album being #1, that all of Piledriver, Hello and Quo re-entered the top 40-50 for a brief period in early 1975, so I don't know what sales would have been, but I'd imagine you needed to shift a lot. That just shows how big Quo had become by 1976 and were still becoming, before the likes of Rocking All Over The World & Whatever You Want were even ideas. Maybe after On The Level, Ma Kelly & Dog sold well too or maybe there wasn't copies to buy, I've no idea about how that would have worked, but I'm sure all of Piledriver, Hello and Quo charted again after On The Level. Someone will have to tell me if I'm wrong.

Not sure how long they went on pressing new vinyl in those days after the first few months of any release came out?? Things like Dark side of the moon were constantly pressed due to demand. Being a second generation Quo fan I bought all the albums second hand mostly apart from some of the vertigo albums which were re released as “nice price” re issues around about 1983/4 without any of the original inlay sleeves or posters which came with the originals. Was it hard to buy say a copy of Piledriver in 1979 in its original form in a normal record store without it being second hand? ?

To answer myself, just had a scan on the official chart website and yes all three albums, Piledriver, Hello and Quo all re-entered the chart. This was same time as Down Down had reached #1, but just before On The Level reached #1, so it looks like week 12-18/1/1975 the Quo album re-enters at #29, Piledriver at #38 and Hello at #46. If that's correct of course. Wonder what sales would have been. After this, and the singles Caroline and Paper Plane, you can see why Rossi would feel like the main driver of the bands success at that time. Anyway back to Dog Of Two Head, Good Thinking would have been a perfect addition to the album, instead of the extra Nanana's.

Anyway back to Dog Of Two Head, Good Thinking would have been a perfect addition to the album, instead of the extra Nanana's. If so, which would be a valid enough view at the time, it's a tad ironic as one could argue that Rossi had peaked at this point.
