Yeah, good one It's a song that seems to gather mixed opinions but I've always liked it. I certainly much prefer it to, say, Mountain Lady which is often given great praise but whose merits have obviously passed me by. My loss I guess. It's not quite an epic album closer as in those that came before it but it's heading that way. A couple of twists and turns before fading into the ether. That middle section where it changes tempo around the 3-minute mark still gives me goose bumps

Does John Coghlan play on this it sounds like a drum Machine.. The drum fills are clearly a drum machine and sound overdubbed. Spud apparently doesn't remember playing on it but I'm sure I read a something from John Eden (when he occasionally contributed to the old SQMB) saying that JC did indeed play drums on it so presumably he's in there somewhere! Absolutely killer song either way. That tempo change is glorious.

Absolutely killer song either way. That tempo change is glorious. He probably recorded his part initially with it either being replaced, triggered or layered on top of with a drum machine. Same case for SBYBIL as well, as he didn't have a clue what the drum pattern was when it came to miming it for TOTPs. Even when they played it live on the tour, he played it nothing like the album version.

Love it. Lots of talk on the old board about drum machines / "it's just a francis demo" was a bit of a downer, but it's still great
Sometimes it's best not to know. I never noticed the drum machine until I read about it.

In relation to JC's drums, I do know of drummers in my own experience, in the past when they've recorded something, sometimes their drums are layered with samples to change the groove slightly or to give it a different feel.
I have zero doubt JC played drums on or for all the tracks but, I guess a decision was made to overdub or layer certain tracks with drum tracks/machines
If you listen at 0:42 on that clip of Riverside, that's a JC signature snare roll or fill. It's in nearly every song

Love it.
One of my favorites from the album, in line with Take me Away and Mountain Lady.
I always find it strange the change between the intro and the "song" (sort to speak). Fade in, and the drums overlaps in between...Strange.
