Love it! Strange that it wasn’t released until in the 1980’s. I seem to remember that it was recorded around the DOTH era, wasn’t it?

Not sure what session this originated from possibly the Ma kelly’s or just after and before Dog of two head was completed. For whatever reason it got dumped as maybe didn’t fit onto the albums above? The outro has the same intro as the Beatles “I want to tell you” from the Revolver album but that could have been one of those unintentional musical accidents.

The outro has the same intro as the Beatles “I want to tell you” from the Revolver album but that could have been one of those unintentional musical accidents. I'd say it'd have to be a deliberate quote/lift from The Beatles, they would certainly have been familiar with the 'Revolver' LP. There's no sign of that outro riff in Spirit's original version of the song. Deffo 1970 at the latest, too - Roy's organ is clearly audible.

Also interesting that this was featured in the rehearsals taped that surface a few years back.

I think it's a cover.
Would have slotted nicely onto Dog. Maybe they wanted all original material on there? A shame as the album could have done with another song

It was a shame when I learned that it wasn't a Lancaster song, but a cover. And I still don't know when this was recorded. Maybe between Spare Parts and Ma Kelly's, or in Ma Kelly's...Don't know. Definitely not in the DOTH era. Really like this song. Slower on the verses, faster on the solos.

I presume it was recorded after Down The Dustpipe as it would have made for a more coherent b-side than Face Without A Soul
