I always think that since RTYD quo’s production has been lacking. Pip brought a snap back with ISOTFC and Quid pro quo has a decent sound, but these two tracks came up on my Spotify back to back (no pun intended)
Mess of blues Falling of the world
So although I’m sure Mess of blues isn’t vintage 70s Quo? Listed to the snap on the snare, the crunchy bright sound across everything and the clear high guitars.
Falling off the world is the same key, similar tempo and I prefer the song. But the drum sounds like a cardboard box, the depth in the sound isn’t there and the high end brightness is non existent.

I think you are right. There is a shift in production between Perfect Remedy and Rock 'til You Drop. There is something happening with the guitar sound as well. Guitars sounds sterile in a way. Nowadays I think Rossi prefere to record digitally with some kind of POD. In the 90's it was solid state amps all the way I think. I very much prefere the sound of the valve amps (Sound City) used in the 70s. There was dynamic and a warmth to that sound.

Everything always sounds so muffled since about Heavy traffic. ISOTFC aside

Even so, MOTB sounds lifeless compared to the Elvis version. (I am focusing on the singing rather than the sound.)
