The style was explained by Francis during his talk tour a couple of years ago. But I can't remember what he called it. But he did say he loved it. I guess it's one of those; you either love that style or you hate it. Hammy as f**k? Just not the Hammy we know, and love.

The rtyd version has a good solo at the end, gets my vote for that This was the only Quo album I bought on cassette. In the end I knew how many seconds I needed to press FF for to miss the song or get to the solo at the end Christ, I'd never made it that far, but from 3:05 it actually sounds good! Yes, if I'd had the CD I'd never have known!

Genuine interested - what genre of music is Tommy’s in Love? It's in the same vein as Beautiful. The style was explained by Francis during his talk tour a couple of years ago. But I can't remember what he called it. But he did say he loved it. I guess it's one of those; you either love that style or you hate it. I've always thought of Beautiful as a pretty straightforward love ballad - it's one person singing to another. And always quite liked it. Tommy on the other hand is more 3rd person / about someone, a bit of melancholy about it. But then I am tone deaf.

Knowing that tracks were left off and remain unreleased from the Perfect Remedy and Rock 'til You Drop albums, when the likes of Tommy appeared on both, is frustrating.
If I had to choose, it would simply be the RTYD version due to the production.
Edit; Rossi sounds bunged up when he sings the "He's out of his mind" line on the RTYD version.

Well he probably had just done a long line of the white marching powder before singing his line in the studio

I don't care for the song but saying that, I don't hate it either.
I think people go way over the top about how bad they think it is when there are much worse Quo songs.
Some of the b-sides for instance from the 90's are horrendous, not to mention tracks from Heavy Traffic like Do It Again, Diggin' Burt Bacharach and the abomination that is Green.

You are right, its even far from the worst song on Perfekt Remedy. The problem for me is that they did it twice.

The problem with the contrast and compare approach is that you have to listen to both to form an opinion. Not happening And there are, indeed, worse tracks than Thomas; both before and since. It's the recording of it twice that seems to irk many. Doesn't irk me. I just don't play it. End of.

I am probably going to get blasted for this but... If the song was recorded and arranged in a way that "Everything" was on Ma Kelly's, it would be redeemable and listenable... I don't think Everything is any better than Tommy. There, I've said it. Not everything the original band did was great either. And there are, indeed, worse tracks than Thomas; both before and since. It's the recording of it twice that seems to irk many. Doesn't irk me. I just don't play it. End of. Thomas?

We will have to agree to disagree. For me Tommy is unlistenable Love groovy Green, and the other two you mention are enjoyable for an occasional listen.

No, its crap but my point was that if it was done in that style, Tommy would have been better imo
