I've always liked great voices and there's never been a greater singer than RJD. (Check out Never More by Elf!). He was majestic in Rainbow and he took it up one notch in Sabbath. The title song was my absolute favourite at the time (I must have mentioned belting it out, quite drunk, under a bridge because of the echo, while very young: great times.) Later on I came to understand the animosity old time Sab fans felt toward Dio and I would readily admit Dio wasn't Sabbath. He wasn't Ozzy. But these two albums, H&H and The Mob Rules, still remain favourite hard rock albums in this house. Ronnie was a giant.
Sometimes when we discuss Quo albums, I have to revisit them. Not so with this one:
1. Neon Knights: the perfect opener, a kick in the teeth. 2. Children of the Sea: Possibly my favourite track, the build-up is incredible. 3. Lady Evil: Not a stand-out, but it gets me every time. 4. Heaven and Hell: the archetypical Dio song (Holy Diver, et al), hard rock history 5. Wishing Well: How can you not love this? 6. Die Young: Those lyrics enchanted this 15-year-old 7. Walk Away: I can't fault this song, although it didn't stand out 8. Lonely is the Word: Beatiful, spellbinding finale of a masterpiece.

This may not be a popular view... 8 songs 3 of them are brilliant 5 filler *********************For me it's only really the title track that is authentic sabbath. One of the best riffs ever The rest sounds.. to me anyway... like Dio solo stuff I'd go along with that... well, up to the *********'s anyhow I bailed on Dio after Dream Evil [before it, truth be told!]

Holy Diver and The Last in Line for me too. Love them. The rest was too formulaic. There were some good songs on Dehumanizer (1992), but then I had to wait till 2009 for Heaven & Hell's "The Devil You Know" to finally enjoy some new work from my favourite singer. The single "We're Stars" in the 80s was also brilliant.

One of the best riffs ever The rest sounds.. to me anyway... like Dio solo stuff As Dio used the 2 Sabbath albums as the template for his solo work, it’s highly likely they sound similar. But as says else where to diminishing returns. I must admit not keen on the term ‘filler’. By your definition for me it describes 90% of Status Quo’s output since ‘91.

Question. Should I venture forward into 'Born Again' or is that a step too far?

Question. Should I venture forward into 'Born Again' or is that a step too far? Despite the album cover and the production not being great. It’s a better album than many would have you believe. A lost classic ? Well maybe not. There’s some good songs on it. If I was to compare it to Quo, I’d would say it’s more 1982 than Just supposin.

Question. Should I venture forward into 'Born Again' or is that a step too far? I was thinking the same thing Can recommend Cross Purposes, with Cat Martin on vocals. No classics, but the overall quality is very high

Gillan's screeching got on my nerves, so I can't listen to the album in its entirety any more. There are some good songs on it though.

Shitty production and all it's still a nicely heavy album with some brilliant stuff on there. My fave = Zero the Hero. What.a.Riff!!
